Brian climbed up on top of the podium, raising his glass full of vodka and positioning his legs like Captain Morgan as he neared the end of his speech. The moon and clear night sky behind him made it look as if he was a superhero coming to save the day.
"So at last, here we are!" he drunkenly and loudly announced to his audience, his curly blonde hair swaying from the breeze. "We're standing on the rooftop of a skyscraper, we're having a party like no other, and the food is just- oh my god- it is orgasmic." Most of the guests laughed while a few gave a sour look.
"It's all pretty amazing, isn't it?" Brian continued. "But despite all this 'amazing-ness,' the most amazing thing tonight is Daniel." Brian turned to his left and looked down at him, laughing behind the hand that covered his face. "Aww look, I'm embarrassing him."
Daniel removed his hand and pointed his glass of whiskey towards Brian. "Thanks Brian, you're the best," he said.
"Oh no, no, no," Brian protested, waving a finger. "Don't make this about me. I mean, as much as I like the attention, this isn't my night – it's yours. But, before we get to the end of my wonderful speech, I would like for everyone to please thank a certain man that made this party possible."
Brian's hazel eyes looked all the way in the back and everyone followed his gaze. I hadn't realized right away he was staring right at me with a huge smile. "This one is to Ricardo, the Best Man and baby brother to Daniel, and future babysitter for when Daniel wants to do something else other than change diapers."
There was a roar of cheers and laughter as everyone clapped and raised their drinks to me. I raised my own proudly, happy that I was able to pull off something big and memorable for my brother.
"And now, we turn back to Daniel." The noise subsided as Brian lowered his glass, his smile turning into a smirk. "You always worked hard for the things you wanted, and even harder for the things you needed. I was there with you through it all as a best friend, and I'm glad that I was a part of your journey. And now, as your wedding day gets closer and closer, you're preparing to embark on a new one."
Brian stood straight and raised his glass once again, higher than before. "To Daniel!"
"To Daniel!" we responded.
"May your journey be long, full of adventure, and full of joy. Cheers!" There was another huge eruption of noise as Brian finished his speech and downed his alcohol.
The moment he was done, the several fog machines we placed near the edges of the roof switched on, and the rainbow-colored lights behind me began flashing. Three men and two women, performers who disguised themselves as guests, stripped down in one fluid motion and met in the middle of crowd. Their attires left little to imagination.
As the club-style music began playing, Brian straightened his posture. "Without further ado, let's keep the party goin'!"
