"_______."

Her eyes fluttered up. She stopped dusting and organizing the lower shelves of the magazine rack. "Yes, Mr. Urahara?" she wiped the sweat off her brow. She knew what was coming.

"You know that I must leave again, _____. I will leave you in charge of the store, as always." He peeked from under his hat. An invisible message was exchanged between them.

Again. No questions asked, she only did what she was told. After all, he was her boss. It was none of her business what he did in that weird basement of his.

There were things that the shady store owner hesitated telling her. As a result, she'd grown remorseful towards him. She nodded slowly, "Yes, sir."

With a cloth pinned under a shaky hand, she went back to dusting the shelf. She couldn't even look at him right now.

She had this annoying itch to just give him a piece of her mind. How worried she gets, the secrecy, and the sudden long trips he'd take. It was hard when she was left on her own.

She would have quit ages ago. But the sense of family she'd found in the Urahara store stopped her. (And that small birthday party he had thrown for her last month).

She angrily plucked a magazine off the shelf. Her finger brushed over the date printed on the corner. These were way too old to be sold. She thought she'd asked Tessai to throw them out.

"_______."

The cool morning air burned in her throat all of a sudden. She was flinging items instead of placing them, and scrubbing obsessively at areas that had already been wiped clean. She never complained, just did what needed to be done. She even kept Jinta in check every now and then when she could.

A hand on her shoulder paralyzed her.

"Thank you, you've helped me a lot. I couldn't ask for anyone better ______-chan."

She turned her head slowly and hadn't realized how close he was. Close enough for her to feel his warm breath tickle her skin. It smelled of green tea. Probably the same batch she had brewed for him this morning. Her cheeks burned and she turned away in response. He stifled a chuckle behind his fan.

Tessai emerged from upstairs. "Good morning, ______!" Tessai belted. "Good morning, Tessai-san."

Urahara boasted, "Ah, my _______-chan always works hard!" ______ eyed her boss, repeating the phrase over and over in her mind. He winked at her from under that hat of his. She blushed, and felt her chest tighten. Self-conscious, she turned back to her work to hide her burning face.

"Tessai, I need to put in a new order for these new issues. I thought we threw these out." She held up a magazine. Tessai adjusted his glasses as he took a closer look at the faded ink.

"But that costs money." Urahara yawned, stretching lazily. _______ turned to glare at him, "How do you expect to get any customers with this old merchandise? These are from two years ago!" She tossed one at his feet. "That is true..." He picked it up, "Well if you think we should ______-chan, the let's throw these out and order a new subscription." Urahara stood over her, reaching a hand down to rub her head gently.

"Mr. Urahara, you're embarrassing me." She took his hand and moved it away from her head. Tessai began to box the magazines in a corner of the store. He crouched to her level, "I couldn't help myself, ______-chan. I don't know where the shop would be without you." His eyes were serious, and it was an expression she had never seen on him before. She couldn't even meet his eyes. Urahara abruptly turned away and got up, "Well, I have to make necessary preparations for today. I'll be in my office."
