Here's a little taste of a book I'm working on. Progress has been very slow, so please don't expect frequent updates, though I will try to update as quickly as I can. There's a picture of the assassin on the right, and a cast list in the order of appearence.
Prologue
Assassination. That was job. He didn’t necessarily like it, but it paid the bills.
He was, after all, top in his class.
Right now he was on a new case. With him to do the job, were his silent work weapons: his knives and machete. He never used guns. He didn’t need to. Plus, they were too noisy for his liking. Grenades he’ll use. Bombs. Why not? But never guns.
He was currently crouched behind a bush, looking into the house before him. It was well past midnight before he decided they were all asleep. He crept silently up to the front door, and took out his best lock-picking device, a bobby pin. Silently, he picked the lock with ease and walked inside the house.
His mission was to kill the Mayor’s family and no one else, not that there would have been. The Mayor and his family lived on their own in the woods and the nearest person lived several acres away.
He went up the stairs carefully, so as to avoid a creaky step. When he had reached the top, he thought back to the floor plan he memorized of this house to find the Mayor’s room. Remembering which one it was he quickly hurried to the room. He had spent too much time on the stairs.
Before going into the actual room, he took out his favorite weapon, his foot-long knife. He silently opened the door, and crept stealthily into the room.
He crept first to the side of the bed where the Mayor lay. With one quick action, he slit the throat of the Mayor, killing him instantly. He heard a quiet gasp from the other side of the bed as the Mayor’s wife awoke and sat straight up in bed. Not wanting to be seen, the assassin ducked softly to the floor. He heard the bed slightly creak as she climbed out of bed. She walked right past him without detecting his presence.
This was not part of the plan.
He quickly thought of a solution. He quickly stood up and stabbed his knife through her back and through her heart, killing her immediately. Before she could fall and hit the floor, he caught her and gently set her on the carpet, so as to make no noise.
He swiftly left the Mayor’s room, and onto the room of their only child. He was not informed of age or gender. Just location. He tiptoed into the room next to the window at the end of the hall. On cat feet he tread to the side of the bed. Out of pure curiosity, he took a look at the figure before him.
It was a girl. Her chocolaty hair fell in soft waves until it was just above her butt. She was lying on her side facing him with her hands tucked under the pillow, and under her head. Her rosy lips were slightly parted as she inhaled and exhaled through her mouth; her chest rising and falling with each breath she took. Her face was a cross between heart shaped and an oval, and she had high cheekbones. She had long, thick eyelashes and what seamed like almond eyes. He had never had to kill such a beautiful girl. She turned slightly, so she was more on her back, and softly moaned. Something inside him caused him to brush a stray strand of hair from her face, and upon feeling her warm, soft skin he could barely contain the moan of longing. He had never been permitted to have a relationship and this yearning overwhelmed him. Without knowing why, he turned away, and let her live.
I know it's short, but it's a prologue. What did you expect? Anyway, I'll try to get the next chapter up by the end of next month, but I make no promises. I'm working on a ton of different books at one time as well as school and life in general. 'Til then, my little purple monkeys. :-)
