"How do I look Y/N?" Alex asked for the billionth time. You chuckled lightly, reassuring him he looked great.
"It's just my parents Alex-" you tried to reassure him before he cut you off.
"It's not just your parents! What if they hate me! What if they don't want us together?" He worried aloud.
"They don't have a say in who I date. I'm 24, I can make my own decisions. I just don't know how they're gonna react to my tattoo." You say laughing. You recently got your first tattoo. It was the lyrics "Beautiful Scars on Critical Veins" which you loved with all your heart.
The rest of the ride was silent, which you didn't know wether to be worried or relieved at that fact.
You pulled up your country childhood home. It made you smile. You had so many memories here. You saw your mom in the kitchen, looking at whatever was cooking on the stove.
You placed a hand on Alex's knee and whispered "You can do this." To him with a small smile. You both got out of the car and knocked on the door.
You mom opened it and threw her arms around you. She was shorter and quite a bit smaller than you so you lifted her off her feet as a joke and she laughed and expressed how much she missed you. She let go of you and looked at Alex.
"You must be the young man my daughter told me so much about." You mom said, in an attempt to embarrass you, which worked. Your mom pulled him into a friendly hug, Alex had a surprised expression stuck to his face but returned the hug nonetheless.
"I'm Alex, but I'm sure you already know that." He said, sending a smirk you way.
        Your mom nodded and smiled.
"Oh! Y/N! Victoria's here!" Your mom turned to you and said. You gasped and ran to the basement door, knowing she would be there. You missed your sister dearly as she moved to Ottawa. "Victoria! I'm here and I brought Alex!" You yelled down the stairs. You hear a commotion coming from the basement and your sister ran up the stairs and ignored your open arms. She turned to see Alex. She turned to you with a surprised expression.
"Wasn't he the one on your lockscreen like two years ago?" She said. Alex looked at you with surprised eyes.
"Is that so?" Alex said in a amused tone.
"Kill me now. I hate you Tor." You said using her childhood nickname.
"Wait. What? Lockscreen? Why was he your lockscreen?" Your mother asked. Alex started laughing. "What's so funny? What am I not aware of?" She asked, amusement dancing in her eyes.
"Alex is in a famous band I liked, and I thought he was good looking so I set him as my lockscreen." You explained, glaring at your sister. "Don't get too excited Alex. Jack was my  homescreen" you said, putting a damper on Alex's day. He pouted jokingly and said hello to your sister, introducing himself. He was getting along so well with all of your family and it made you so happy.
Your mom went back to cooking, telling all of you that dinner would be ready in ten minutes. Your father walked out of his room and his eyes lit up at the sight of you and he came and hugged you tightly and turned to look at Alex. His eyes widened.
"Y/N.. Can we talk?" Your father said sternly, dragging you somewhere private.
"Why did you bring a..a.. Emo into my house!" Your dad yelled at you.
"Dad! He isn't emo! He's my boyfriend and a part of this family and you will start treating him like it " you yelled back and stormed out of the room, looking for Alex. You saw him sitting at the table with Victoria, looking down.
"Hey. I want to take you somewhere. Lets go." You whispered quietly to Alex. "We'll be home for dinner, promise." You smiled at your mom and she sent a sympathetic smile towards Alex. You brought him outside.
"I knew this would happen." He muttered. "I knew they wouldn't like me.". That's when you stopped walking.
You walked closer to Alex and pulled him into a hug when you saw tears welling up in his eyes.
"My dad judges everyone. That's just how he is. My sister and mom love you, I can tell, and my dad will too in due time. Just give it time. Now let's get going," you said, bringing him into your forested backyard. You guys walked hand in hand for about ten minutes before you stopped at a clearing. An old fire pit and sitting logs.
"This is where I came to think. It was my spot. I built all of it. You're the only one who knows about it." You said. He smiled down at you and took your small hand in his, guiding you to the familiar log and sat down, placing his arm around you and you rested your head on his shoulder.
"Everything will be okay." You said, trying to calm his anxiety. You heard rustling in the brush and you both whipped your heads over, Alex's grip tightening on your shoulder. The blue plaid bush jacket you knew all too well appeared, your father being the wearer.
"Hi Y/N, Alex. I came out to apologize. What I did was unacceptable and I am sincerely sorry for what I said. Alex, I would like to formally introduce myself. My name is Y/D/N and it's a pleasure to meet you." Your father said in what seemed to be one breath. He was nervous. Alex gladly took his hand and introduced himself as well.
You smiled at your dad, happy we would give Alex a chance. "Do you know when dinner will be ready?" You asked. That earned laughs from both Alex and your father. "Ah, only you," Alex laughed squeezing your shoulder.
"It's ready now, actually." Your dad said, glancing at his watch.
"Great!" You said, taking Alex's hand and darting into the well known woods. You jumped over logs and puddles that had been there since you were a child but Alex's foot got caught on one and he went tumbling down.
"Alex!" You shrieked. "Are you alright?" He got up but fell right back down. "I sprained my ankle." He said. You huffed and helped him up and into your cleared yard. You helped him up to your house and to the table when your mother asked worriedly "What happened to you?" I was only her that would be so worried.
"I got excited about dinner and started dragging him through the bush a little too quickly and he fell." You explained and Victoria started laughing.
"Only you would get that excited about dinner and break your boyfriends ankle." She laughed and your cheeks turned red. We all got seated and served ourselves. Everyone was laughing at some embarrassing story your mother told Alex. You decided it was time.
"So I have an announcement to make." You said excitedly. Your mothers face drained of colour. "No, we're not getting married and I'm not pregnant." You reassured. The colour came back to everyone's face and even Alex let out a breath of relief. "I got a tattoo!" You said excitedly.
"What is it? Where?" Your mom asked.  You showed them my wrists and smiled. They weren't mad. "What lyrics are those?" Your sister asked and my eyes sparkled with proudness. "They're Alex's" you said expressing as much proudness you could into two words.
"You're in a band?" My dad asked with uncertainty in his voice.
"Yes. We're called All Time Low." Alex answered, sounding confident.
"Can I hear some of your music?" My sister asked so you whipped out my phone and put on your favourite song, Remembering Sunday. They all seemed to be enjoying the songs and your mom looked at Alex astonished.
"You have an amazing voice, wow." She complimented. "How's you manage to get him Y/N?" My sister joked and you glared playfully at her. We finished up dinner and I hugged everyone goodbye.
"That went well!" Alex said with a huge smile on his face as soon as he closed the door behind him.
"Indeed it did." You answered, smiling. "Wait, listen." You said standing outside your mother and fathers bedroom window.
"He's amazing for Y/N, I regret not giving him a chance at first. I love him." You heard your dad say. "I'm excited for the wedding!" Your mom said excitedly.
"I heard that mom!" You shouted up at the window, laughing.

I'm excited for the wedding, too, mom.
