Outfit: change has come

"You can do it, it's just nerve racking, that's all," I mumbled to myself as I walked through the deserted school. I transferred from an all-girls school in the outback to a non-uniform boarding school in Los Angeles and being in 10th grade doesn't make it any better. I saw a boy sitting on the window sill of the main hall and being lost I went over to ask him for directions.

"Excuse me......umm... do you know where dorm..." I looked at the back of my hand where I had neatly printed dorm 278 and homeroom 67, "278 is?"

He looked up, "Umm, yeah... if you go down this hall you'll come to the Karah Dining room then go down Nary hall and go up Cockney staircase and....you're the new girl...Kat, right?"

"Yeah," I nodded feeling like a complete idiot.

"And you have no f**king idea what I'm talking about, correct?"

"No idea."

"Okay, follow me," he said walking off. "So where did you come from?"

"An all-girl school in the Australian outback," I said looking down.

"So that's where the accent is from. And you came here, why exactly?" he asked.

"Umm... well my mother died in child birth, and my father committed suicide when I was 1½ so I've lived with my great aunt since then and now she's having trouble looking after me so she sent me up here 'cause my uncle is here so he could take care of me but he is addicted to drugs, alcohol and smoking so he sent me here. End of story."

"Oh, okay....so you aren't really used to having guys 'round, are ya?"

"No, not really. My primary school was an all-girl to and since my father left the only other guys I've really seen was the men at the airports and my uncle, so......yeah."

"Okay, well I'm Noah... and I guess I'll see you around," he said holding open a door with a metal board with 278 engraved into it.

"Umm...thanks," I said shyly. I walked into the room slowly not knowing what to expect. I looked back but Noah was already gone.

"And you are..?" said a kind voice behind me.

"I'm Kat....the new girl," I replied looking back at the room.

"Oh, Kat......the girl from down under," she said giggling and picking up a piece of paper. "I'm Isabell and it looks like you're my new roomie. And it says here that you've never been on a date or had your first kiss. Your favourite colour is black and you have a deep dark secret that you haven't told anyone on Earth, is that correct?"

"Yeah, but how did you know that?"

"I know everything about you that is necessary for me to know so you can have a great time at this school. For example, I decorated your side of the room to match who you are and the things you like," Isabell exclaimed enthusiastically pointing to the other side of the room.

I looked and it was the perfect room, "Wow.....you're good."

"I know. I'm the schools best student and since I don't need to look after my studies as much as others I'm sent to look after newbies. So, here is your schedule and my schedule so you know where I will be if you need my help and here is a simple map of the school so you can make your way around easily. In term 2 I will upgrade your map to a more complex one and then in term 3 hopefully you won't need a map anymore," she handed Kat three papers. "Also I know that you are a very shy girl so you don't need to answer me with words, hand gestures will be sufficient." She smiled sweetly at the end and I thought that I would try to be friends with Isabell.
