Dark.
Pitch black.
The pit-pattering of rain on the ground on a... what seemed to be normal city night.
There is a young man, age 13, shivering up against an old shop's wall. "Wood For All" it was. He was waiting for his dad to get off his shift, since he can't go anywhere else. The 13 year old's name is Rand. Blue eyes. Cracked glasses. Shaggy, fluffy hair. His plaid jacket was far from dry. Shoes sopping wet. He knew there were better things to do on a Friday night. Maybe talk to his friend over Steam. Rand pulled out his phone, opened up the app and went to the chat tab with his friend's username. She was the only one he could spill out to about his feelings.
"Hey, Rebs," Rand sent. His friend's full name is Rebecca, so he just calls her Rebs or Rebby.
Quickly, a new chat bubble popped up. He eagerly waited for those three dots to turn to words. "Hey Rand :)."
"So how's the best girl in the world? :)," he sent with a sigh, only wishing he could be in her warm arms. He could really use it, too, considering the rain.
"Meh... I've been better :("
"What do you mean?"
"Very bad migrane... Braces acting up again."
"Aww don't hurt <3," Rand sent, wanting to be by Rebecca's side to comfort her. He, secretly, hurt deep down inside.
"I can't control the braces, you know XD"
"Yeah XD"
She stopped replying after that. Rand got off of the floor and opened the door of the old Wood shop. His eyes wandered in all the isles. Ducks. Bears. Cars. Everything here was made of wood. Rand loved the smell, too. All of the sudden, he sees his friend Blake burst through the back door.
"R-RAND!" Blake huffed. "I need to talk to you."
"What, Blake?" asked Rand. He really wasn't in the mood to listen to Blake's annoying voice.
"It's just that... I have a crush on someone and-"
"I don't want to hear about your love life right now, 'kay?"
"What's the matter, buddy?" Blake asked, concerned.
"I feel like something bad is going to happen. Like there's this vibe going through me and I can't tell what it is."
And then.
CRASH!
Rand quickly grabbed his friend and started running towards the finishing room in the back. He didn't catch a glimpse of the thing that crashed through the window. He's just glad he got away from it as soon as possible.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" Blake yelped. Rand could feel his friend shaking.
"It's okay, Blake. We're safe," Rand said, in a comforting voice, making Blake loosen up a bit.
Footsteps.
There were rushing footsteps along the cheapo floor.
Footsteps that sounded oddly familiar.
Not my dad, but-
"Rand, Blake, are you guys okay?" a voice rang out.
Mr. Harper!
"Guys! Answer me now!"
Rand is in too much shock to reply, so he just ran up to his favorite teacher and gave him an excited smile.
"Well, I'm glad you're all right," he said, struggling a smile upon his face. "Say, your dad has a fine shop here. Mind if I smuggle a few machines?" Mr. Harper chuckled lightly. "Only kidding."
