First day of school, no big deal for the Walker house. I'm Riley Walker, 15 years old, a new sophomore at my school. I've lived here my whole life, our little town of 13,000 people. I pulled myself out of bed, and got dressed. I chose to wear a white chunky sweater and dark skinny jeans, paired with my white converse. I curled my long brown hair, and lightly put on makeup. I grabbed my phone and saw that the time was 7:30 and ran out the door. Since i'm only 15 i have to walk to school, thankfully it's only a five minute walk every morning.
I approached the school with enthusiasm, school was where i lived during most of the year. My home life isn't terrible, but it isn't that great either. I have a single-mom, my Dad left when i was three, never to be seen again. Sometimes i like to think he went on some grand adventure to find himself, that's what i'd do, but then i face the reality that he just left out of the blue. No warning signs, nothing, just gone. I walked in the school and got my schedule from the front office, i found my locker, number 344. I shoved my books in, and ran to my first class in fear of being late, Government. I which is the unpopular opinion, am excited for this class. I pick a seat in the front of the classroom, with suprisingly ten minutes to spare before class starts.
I get out my phone and shoot a text to my friend Baily telling her where my class was. Soon she popped through the door with my other friend Alyssa, my two bestfriends. "Ry! Looking spiffy as ever!" Baily exclaimed. "yeah no, don't say spiffy again." i warned. She frowned and glanced to the back of the class. "Riley, don't look now but....hot guy behind you." she whispered the last part. I voided her warning, glancing behind me, as they giggled. I felt my face turn red, and quickly turned back around. "Riley, go! Go talk to him!" Alyssa pulled me out of my seat giving me no choice.
I made my way to the back of the class, it felt like it took a million years. "H-hi, my names Riley." I greeted him with a smile. He looked up at me, his dark brown eyes felt like they were staring into my soul. After a moment of silence he finally replied, "Asher." I frowned as he seemed like he wanted to be left alone, I quickly retreated to my seat embarrassed. I noticed my friends had left and soon after the bell rang, and class began.
My mind continued to wander too distracted to pay attention to the teachers beginning of year greetings. I glanced back at Asher to see he was staring at me. I turned around and fiddled with my hair. He wasn't very friendly, i mean maybe he's just shy. Maybe we could be friends....maybe more than friends. No, i reminded myself, no boys until after highshool. But i mean, he is cute...black hair, dark mysterious eyes, his facial features seem to be older than me, but he's in highschool so he can't be that old. He carries a cloud of mystery around him, i want to know that mystery.
"Miss....Miss!" the teacher snapped his ruler down on my desk. "what? um yes?" i said embarrassed. "your name?" "Oh, um I'm Riley Walker..." i said right as the bell rang, Dear lord thankyou for that. I quickly grabbed my things and ran out of class, wondering if i'd see him again today.
