To forgive is to forget. They are connected words but at the same time have completely different meaning. If you forgive something, you will forget it sooner, there is no urge to do something about it because it's dealt with. If you don't forgive then you will not forget, you will constantly have that thing at the back of your head, nudging you to do something. You don't want to, but you need to. You choose to leave it and it just hangs there, waiting, sitting in your head collecting dust. It wastes your energy, day after day. Finally you decide you can't carry the weight anymore, you forgive the person, you forget, you are finally happy again. You don't waste any energy anymore and you don't have something constantly at the back of your head.
