I leaned back in my chair with awe. The contests I posted on Wattpad last week had an unexpected result. It turns out that the first place winner was very popular. Because he dedicated his story to me, rachnicole, their fans came to my page. And boy did they. Over the course of a week I got 150 new fans and my stories collectively received 3,000 views. I always dreamed of being popular on Wattpad. But not everyone was happy. The 19th and 20th place people complained. I forgot who the 19th place Wattpader was but the 20th place Wattpader's name was ROTTENPOPPER. They just complained that they didn't deserve last place. I offered tips to make their future stories better after all, that's why I posted the contest on the Improve Your Writing Form.
I got up from my chair. I needed to get ready. My boyfriend Kevin was coming over to celebrate our 1 year dating anniversary. And the pajamas that I was wearing weren't going to impress anyone. I had a white silk dress in the dryer and white heels on top of it down stairs. I needed to go get it.
I walked from the living room to my brothers room. He just got out of collage and needed a place to stay untill he got a job, so we converted the dining room into his bedroom temporally. He wasn't here right now. He was at a job interview. My parents were also gone. They had gone to dinner and then a movie.
I walked from his room to the kitchen. From there I took a left at the counters on the wall and then a right when they ended. From there I could either go out on the back porch or go in the basement.
I opened the basement door. A trickle of light shone through the murky window under the stairs, providing little light. The stair hallway down to the basement were dark and unsettling. I flipped the light switch. The lights came on, illuminating the basement with a dim yellow glow. I hated the basement. Specifically coming up from it. I always thought someone was going to appear out of nowhere and chase me up the stairs. The stair hallway was cramp and only let you come up or down. The door also sometimes didn't like to open, adding to the fear. Going down was fine, but comming up was terrifying.
I went down a step and shut the door behind me. I walked down the stairs, the steps creaking under my weight.
I got to the bottom. The washer and dryer where in the storage room In the back of the basement. I walked over to the storage room door and pulled it open. I walked inside and shut the door behind me. The storage room was small. It only had enough room for a washer, dryer, and for someone to move to each.
I pulled open the dryer and pulled out my silk dress. I undressed and put the dress on. Just as pulled up the last strap, the lights unexpectedly went out. This wasn't normal. There were two switches that controlled the lights, one at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top. So that meant someone was either at the top or the bottom of the stairs. It couldn't be at the bottom of the stairs because the door next to the stairs was always locked, and only me, my brother, parents, and boyfriend had the key. That meant they were at the top of the stairs.
I whipped around towards the door.
" Hello," I called out, " who there?"
No one answered. Great. I'm stuck in the basement of all places with god knows out there. I turned around and grabbed a heel, a pathetic attempt at protection. I looked back at the door. I reached for the knob heel raised. I grabbed it and twisted, the knob creaking as it turns. When it did its full rotation, I pulled back the door.
Nothing.
Nothing was there. Nothing was out of place. No creepy demon from my fears. I didn't relax because there was still the top of the stairs. I walked over to the stairs and looked up. It was dark and creepy. I looked around once more to make sure no one was down there with me. I gathered all the courage I could and started up the stairs. I walked on the very left side of the stairs so they wouldn't creak. I was halfway up the stairs when I heard a sound.
