The Race

Chapter 2

Claire and I walked into Skylynn's room to see Skylynn playing with her horses.

"Claire, Hannah" she yelled.

"Hey little one" Claire said.

"This is so great, I get to see all four of you guys again" she said and hugged Claire and I.

"So Sky, how is kindergarten" Claire asked.

"Hard, I mean how am I supposed to learn 26 letters" she complained.

"Same" I said and laughed.

There was a knock on the door and Charli walked in.

"Charli" Sky yelled and ran over and hugged her.

"Hey, Sky. How are you" she asked.

"Good," Sky said.

"Hey, Sky. I need to borrow Claire and Hannah for a minute" Charli said.

"Is that ok" she asked.

Sky nodded her head.

"We will be right back" Claire said and we walked out.

"What going on" I asked.

"We are getting Elizabeth up to speed on what is happening" Hayes said joining us at the top of the stairs.

Claire and I nodded.

"Elizabeth, can we talk" Charli asked her.

"Sure, what's up" Elizabeth asked.

"You are aware of what Nash did right" I asked.

"Sorta, all I remember was the call from Hayes that night two years ago and I know that Nash is doing bank heist" she said.

"Um, well. There is more to the story" Hayes said.

"What happened" Elizabeth asked.

"Um, that night. Nash killed Charli's parents for something that we haven't found out yet" I explained.

"Nash, killed your parents" Elizabeth said looking at Charli.

Charli who was tearing up nodded.

"What about your brother" Elizabeth asked.

"He is living in the hospital because of his leukemia" Charli said.

"Oh, dear. I'm so sorry" Elizabeth said and hugged Charli.

"Mom, do you know of any reason what Nash would kill to find" Hayes asked.

She had a scarred look in her eyes.

"Mrs. Grier" Claire asked.

"No, no idea" she said.

"Are you sure" Charli asked.

Elizabeth nodded.

"Ok, well. Here" Hayes said passing her a gun.

"For your own protection" I said.

"Never in all of my life would I ever think to see my son handing me a gun" she said.

My phone buzzed and I looked at it.

"Your adult advisor is on route to the house, he should be there in about three hours" the text from thru director said.

"Our adult advisor is on route, we have three hours to prove we can work alone" I said.

"How are we supposed to get Nash in three hours" Claire yelled.

"We can't" Hayes said.

"I thought you said you wanted to prove ourselves to the director" Charli said.

"I do but now is not the time, 3 hours is not enough time to plan and execute a plan" I said.

"Hannah is right, we are going to wait for the advisor to arrive and then start planning with him" Hayes said.

"Fine. I'm going to play with Skylynn until then" Claire said and walked upstairs.

"What's up with her" Charli asked.

"I think she is sad because of matt. I think she misses him" I said.

"They broke up over a year ago though" Charli said.

"That doesn't mean she still can't be sad. You never know with Claire" I said.

Claire about 2 years ago started dating Matthew Espinosa he was in the child division with us and her and Claire were inseparable until last year when Matt got a promotion to the adult division at that time he broke up with her because he didn't want to look bad by dating a child division member which killed Claire. She stayed in her room for about 3 months until one day she apparently got better but Charli and I still knew she was sad about it.

"Hey, I'm going to check on Claire" I said.

Hayes and Charli nodded.

"Elizabeth, can you watch Sky for a bit. I need to talk to Claire about something and I'm pretty sure Hayes and Charli are getting it on if you know what I mean" I said.

She laughed. "Of course" she said.

I smiled and walked up to Sky's room.

I walked in.

"Hey Sky your mom wants you" I said.

Sky got up and ran out.

I closed the door and looked at Claire.

"It's Matthew isn't it" I said.

She shook her head.

"Bull crap, don't lie to me" I said.

"Ok, fine. It's Matt. He texted me the other day and said that he was out adult supervisor" She said.

"Are you serious" I asked.

She nodded.

"I'm not ready to see him" She said.

"Hey, well get ready because he is earlier than scheduled" I said looking out the window to see a black Yukon and out emerged the one and only Matthew Espinosa.
