Amelia got up and switched off the alarm. It was 6:00 in the morning and everything was as still, as quite outside but there was some buzzing sound coming from…. inside the house.
She got up from her bed and went to brush her teeth. She had found the cartons in the next room and had arranged everything in her room except for some posters and frames.
She opened her wardrobe to search for something she could wear. Generally Amelia slept like a log and her mother had to come and wake her up but this was the first time she had woken up so early and by her own. She changed her clothes after having a good, warm bath. Then she went to stand by the window and looked towards the sky. There were clouds and it looked like soon there would be a storm. She shuddered at the thought of it because she didn’t like rainfall. Then suddenly her eyes saw something moving behind the bushes and something flew towards… her.
Aahhhhhhhh! She cried in pain as a stone hit her head and she started to bleed profusely.
As the world started to spin around her, she could just remember the door oh her room being opened and her parents rushing towards her before she finally gave in to the blackness.
Amelia woke up, dizzy and with a throbbing pain in her head
Amelia! Oh! What happened? How did u get hurt? …her mother’s voice echoed in the room.
As she tried to focus, she saw that she was not alone in her room. There were 2-3 people in the room, excluding her parents, whom she didn’t even recognize. She sat up on her bed with difficulty and searched for her mom’s face.
Oh my baby, how do you feel darling? Her mother asked her as she walked towards Amelia’s bed.
My head hurts a little but otherwise I am fine mom. What happened exactly? I don’t remember anything except for a blurry image of somebody standing behind the bushes in the garden.
Oh darling, we are not sure what happened exactly. We have reported the matter to the police and they are claiming that some lunatic must have done it, Amelia’s mother replied softly.
Umm…I saw someone behind the bushes and saw the person throwing something towards u but I couldn’t make out who he was, said a boy of her age whom she was unknown to. He continued. I saw a person hiding down in the bushes and then everything happened so quickly that it was very difficult to make out the motive and by the time I came down the man was gone. I came to your house and woke up your mother. We came to this room and saw u lying unconscious on the floor and your forehead had developed a wide cut and blood was oozing out. We called up the doctor and the police immediately.
Oh, I still can’t fathom why someone would do this without ant further motive, Amelia said as her breath became steady and the pain reduced due to the painkillers.
Thank you for saving me, she said looking at the guy once again.
No need for that. I am glad I was able to help, after all we are neighbors. By the way I am Martin. I live just opposite to your house.
I guess we should leave, now that you have gained consciousness, said an elderly woman who had been eyeing Amelia for the past hour.
Thank you for your help, I am really glad to have neighbors like you, Amelia’s mother thanked the woman as she opened Amelia’s bedroom door to see their neighbors out and Amelia dozed off again.
When Amelia woke up, it was 1 o’ clock in the afternoon. She stretched her hands and then got down from her bed. She felt a lot better than the morning and went down to eat something because she was starving.
Mom???? Where r u???? …….she shouted.
She heard things crashing on the floor from some room upstairs and went to see what the matter was.
Mom??? Dad???
She opened the door and her mouth hung open.
What had happened here? Everything was broken. Nothing was intact and even the bed had been brought down to pieces.
But wait a minute, who would do this? As realized that no one was at home. Amelia rushed down through the stairs and took the phone in her hand. But, wait a minute, the phone was dead, the line had been cut. Was she imagining things?
She went to the door but it was locked. How could someone possibly do this if the door was locked and no one was at home. This was strange.
She made her way back to her room and just as she was about to open the door to her room, she heard footsteps…footsteps coming right up the stairs.
Amelia was scare, she was scared seriously. She gulped as her hold on the door knob grew stronger. The footsteps were reaching nearer and nearer and she didn’t know what to expect.
Gathering whatever strength she had she slowly turned around to see who was approaching the top of the stairs and as she turned and stared, she wished she had never left her room….Death was in the house.
