Erin's POV:
"Alright Er, just hit this last verse hard and then you're good" Johnson said from the chair he was sitting in. I nodded as he clicked a few things on the screen of the Mac he was in front of. I started belting into the one mic that they had in the room, none of us were technically signed yet so we did all of our recording at the Jacks house. It wasn't very practical but it worked for now. "Yes Er! That's it!" Gilinsky said clapping his hands together and hopped up from the couch on the other side of the room. I smiled and took the headphones off, handing them over to him. "Thanks guys" I said laughing softly and walked over to the couch. "Shit I'm gonna have to step up my game, check this out" Johnson said unplugging his head phones and playing an audio file Skate had just sent him. "Oh my god who is that?" I asked leaning closer to the computer. "Skate's been working with Ice Cube and that's his son on Skate's new track." "Wait, like the Ice Cube, like NWA Ice Cube?" I asked with excitement. Cube was one of my favorite rappers growing up, and the thought of one of my best friends working with him shocked me. "Yeah, he just signed Skate to his label. Lench Mob records I think, I don't know something like that. Anyway, G step up to the mic so we can finish this up, we have to show it to Steve tomorrow." Johnson said switching back to the garage band screen, he was always all business when it came to recording. "I'm gonna head back home just to grab some stuff and then I'll be back okay guys?" I said grabbing my keys. "Hey take my baby with you, she's been stuck in the house all day" Gilinsky said putting the headphones on.
I drove back to my house with the windows down and Emily in the passengers seat. "So how did everything go with Jake last night?" Emily asked as we pulled into my driveway. "We got in a fight but it ended up being fine in the end." I said taking out my keys and opening the car door. "Make up sex?" she asked raising her eyebrow. "Hours of it" I said laughing. "You're ridiculous" she said laughing back. I unlocked the door and started walking upstairs, "So where is Jake, anyway?" she asked following behind me. "He and Steve had a meeting downtown about Digi. So he won't be back for a couple hours." "Didn't he just have one last week too? What's going on with that?" she asked and sat down at the chair in front of my vanity. "I have no clue, but Steve's kinda been bugging all of us to come up with new music for another tour he wants us to do. I'm guessing it has something to do with that." I said grabbing my plain black hoodie from the closet. "Alright I'm good lets go" I said after grabbing a few more things from mine and Jake's room. We headed down stairs "Hey mind if I grab a water from the fridge?" Emily asked walking ahead of me. "Help yourself, just hurry because the boys will kill me if I'm not back soo-" "Hey what's this?" she asked peeking out of the doorway with a small box wrapped in paper. I took it from her, it was addressed to me so I opened it. Inside was a brand new lokai bracelet with a note, but it wasn't from Jake. "Thought you could use a new one, love. I figured it was your lucky charm, not like you need one. Love, Cody Simpson" I quickly crumpled up the note and threw it away as Emily asked who it was from. "Just Jake, he wrote something stupid" I said laughing a bit to cover up my lie. "Let's get back before the boys kill me" I said slipping on the bracelet and leading Emily out the door.
"Well, what do you think?" Johnson asked as we all sat in Steve's office after playing the new song for him. "I like it, I really do. But you can't release it or perform it on the new tour." Steve said with a sigh. "Excuse me?" I asked furrowing my brow. "Corporate wants up to clean up our image a bit, appeal to our younger preteen fan base. Which means no songs implying or talking about sex, drugs, or drinking." "This is a joke right? This has to be a fucking joke" I said turning to the boys and then back to Steve. "No swearing either, a lot of your setlist in particular will be changed drastically Erin." Steve said pulling out a paper with my normal setlist on it, almost everything had been crossed out and new songs had be written in. "So because corporate wants a younger fan base we get creatively oppressed?" Gilinsky asked angrily. "I know guys I hate to bare the bad news bu-" "Then don't! This is bull shit Steve, I want to be able to do my own music my own way! This isn't what I signed up for!" I said standing up. "Erin's right Steve, where in our contracts does it say our music has to be restricted?!" Gilinsky said "Actually it states that anything corporate says goes, therefore you have to follow these rules. I'm sorry guys." Steve said folding his hands on his desk. "I'm out" I said turning around and walking out, "Erin wait please just think on it" Steve said now standing behind his desk. "My lawyer will be contacting you" I said before storming out of the office with the Jacks right behind me.
"So you can't perform any of your old stuff or the new things you've been working on for months?" Skate asked passing the blunt over to me. "Nope, so it was all a waste." I said before putting it to my lips, taking a hit. "Shit, it's not like that over at Lench. Cube is all about artists being original, especially after the shit he went through with Ruthless." Skate said taking a sip of his beer. "Yeah well I wish we were over there." Gilinsky said. "Well maybe you could be" Skate said setting down his drink. "What are you talking about? We all have contracts with Digi, you didn't." Johnson said taking the blunt from my fingers. "Cube is looking for a new female talent who will blow everyone out of the water and he's definitely interested in you guys too, Shea told me." "Who's Shea?" Gilinsky asked. "Cube's son, come on guys. What if I bring him to your show next Saturday?" Skate asked looking around. "Steve will be pissed" Gilinsky said. "Steve doesn't have to know. Er, what do you think?"
