I quickly took the marshmellow away from the fire and began to blow on it. It was all burnt. I looked over my shoulder, and through my sliding doors I noticed Matt was laughing. I found myself smirking as well.3 hours later
Everyone was gone. I was helping my mom clean up the mess my friends and I made.
"Did you meet our new neighbors?" My mom questioned.
"Uh yeah, they seem nice."
"The boy is your age, he's really nice. You should get to know him"
"Uhh yeah I guess."
"I was speaking to his mother, and you and Matt are going to the same school. I told her he could carpool with you so he is not alone on his first day.
I froze. Why would my mom do that?? I barely even know the dude.
"Mom, really?" I finally said.
"Stella, its his senior year too and he does not know anyone in your school, the least you can do is try to be a friend so his first day isnt too awkward and lonely."
"Whatever mom" I said
The next morning
I wake up to the annoying beeping sound. I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth. Then, I quickly put on some concealer, mascara, and chap stick. Grabbed my school bag and headed down stairs where my mom has already made my chai tea. I sat down and began sipping my tea.
"Matt should be here in about 10 minutes" My mom began telling me.
"Please be nice" She then said.
"I'm always nice"
She kissed me on my forehead.
"Good luck today sweetie, last first day of high school!"
She grabbed her purse then headed off to work.
"Love you" I shouted.
"Love you more!!"
On her way out I heard her greeting someone. Right away I knew it was Matt. I began tucking my hair behind my ear and pretended to do something on my phone.
"Good Morning" He smiled
"Hey.. hungry?"
"I ate already, but thanks. Ready to go?"
"Uh yeah sure"
The drive was quiet. Not awkward, just quiet. I decided to break the silence.
"Are you nervous?" I asked.
"A little, but I have you, so I'll be ok" He replied
I couldn't help but smile. There was so much comfort in that statement.
I parked my car and we headed into school. Matt and I had several classes together, including first period.
"So tell me about yourself" Matt says while smiling down at me.
"What do you wanna know?" I ask
"Anything..everything."
I smirk. "Well um let's see I love to write, blog, and read poetry."
I find Matt staring at me. He seemed so surprised, but in a good way. I felt my face getting hot, and my cheeks turning red.
"Woah really? Thats different, but its cool."
"Yeah well after my dad passed, I couldn't speak to anyone. So I found comfort in writing and drawing down my thoughts." I said as my voice lightly cracked.
"Im so sorry, I didnt know."
"Dont be. I didn't expect you to know." I cracked a smile.
Matt put his arm around my shoulder. I looked at his hand, then looked at him and smiled. I cant believe we met just the other night. It felt like we already knew each other.
After first period Matt was on his own until lunch.
Hey how you holding up?
I messaged him.Pretty good!! Only got lost twice xD
Haha. Ok see you 6th period. Now stop texting during class!!
I jokingly replied.Haha. Reaaall funny ;)
I smiled and put my phone away.
When lunch came around we met at one of the tables and began eating.
I notice Matt kept looking at his phone and smiling extremely wide.
"Whats with that big smile??" I jokingly ask.
"Haha its nothing, my girlfriend just wished me good luck on my first day"
My eyes widened at the word, girlfriend. I almost choked on my ham and cheese sandwich.
"Oh. Girlfriend ahaha I didn't know you had a girlfriend?" I said trying to be cool about it.
"Yeah she lives back home in Virginia. We've been dating for like 4 months now"
I was disappointed. I began to crave Matt. There was something about him that made me want him. Now I'll never know what it is.
"Wow um thats great, Im happy for you!" I replied.
