00 - Prolouge
"C'mon Tommie. It'll be fun."
"You know what else sounds fun. Sitting at home. Alone."
"Enough Tom, you have been wallowing in self pity for months now. It's time to move on. They're a really good band. And they attract your kind of people. It'll be a good time."
I sighed, but agreed with my friend Caleigh. She was going to drag me to some shitty band playing in an old Irish pub in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
"Are they even good," I asked Caleigh when we stepped into the pub, which was semi-crowded.
"Apparently. They have a pretty big following. East coast, mostly," Caleigh replied.
"But are they good," I asked as the lights dimmed in the place, signalling the band was going to start it's set soon. There was barely a stage, just a small area covered in rugs, amps, wires, and a drum set.
"You're going to have to see for yourself. Now I don't want to here any complaining until the set is over. Got it?"
"Yea, sure," I replied.
A man, whom I assumed was the manager of the pub, introduced the band as Thorns on Roses. Three young guys walked on: one carrying a guitar, another with a bass, and a third with a set of drumsticks in his hand.
"Huh," Caleigh said.
"What?"
"It's nothing, just that there's supposed to be four of them."
"You sure? Maybe they're just a Green Day tribute band."
"Nah, they're more Panic! At the Disco fans. Besides, I've seen them live twice before. There's another kid. The lead singer. He's tall. Brown hair and really green eyes."
"Maybe he's sick?"
"Dunno, maybe."
After the three guys set up, they began to play their set. It seemed that they were very lost without the lead signer. They would play the songs, but none of them would sing the lyrics. By their third song, Everyone in the place had stopped paying attention.
The band played four songs before the guitarist announced they were going to take a break and come back for the rest of their set.
"You should sing up there with them," Caleigh suggested to me.
I laughed, thinking it was a joke and said," Seriously? There's no way in hell I'm doing that."
"C'mon Tommie. I've heard you sing. Your videos don't get thousands of views for no reason. You always say how much you would kill to be in the music industry. This might be your chance. Don't be afraid to take it."
"I do appreciate the bullshit that just came from your mouth, but it's a 'no' from me," I replied.
"Tommie, just do it. Please," Caleigh begged.
"You're not gonna stop harassing me 'til I do it," I looked at her and she nodded." Fine, I'll go over there, but don't expect anything magical to happen."
"That's my girl," I heard her yell as I was walking towards the three guys in the band.
"Hey," I said, approaching them.
"Um, hi," the bassist acknowledge me," what's up?"
"I was just wondering where your lead singer was, and if you need any help maybe."
"Dude, do you know who she is? I recognize that hair anywhere. You're that singer girl from Youtube, right? Tommie, your name is," the drummer exclaimed, pointing at me and my hair. I wasn't hard to miss, if you knew about me. My hair was dyed all shades of blue and purple, some pink in there as well.
"Uh, yeah," I said awkwardly," that's me.
"I've seen some of your covers, you're really good," the guitarist.
"Thanks."
"I've got an idea," the bassist exclaimed," give us 30 seconds exactly, Tommie."
"Um, okay."
The three guys then huddled together, talking about me, probably.
"Tommie," the drummer called me over to the rest if the band.
"Yea?"
"Sing with us. Just for this set. Please?"
I was silent for a moment. Maybe Caleigh was right, could this be my big moment.
"Do you guys know American Idiot?"
The three guys smiled and the guitarist yelled," We're living on!"
;
Weeks after my performance with Thorns on Roses, I went to all of their band practices because they asked me. During those weeks I became closer with the three boys. Ryan, the guitarist was probably the biggest Panic! At the Disco fan I have ever met. He was tall with brown hair and blue eyes. Chandler, the drummer acted exactly like Joey from Friends, which I found hilarious. He was tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. Teddy was the drummer; he had brown hair and green eyes. He was a huge Star Wars nerd, so we got along pretty well.
After a month of going to their band practices, Chandler popped the question.
"Tommie, we've been thinking. We really don't want to let this band die. We have a pretty big following. We mean something to these kids. We wanna keep it alive. Would you like to be part of our revival?"
I took a moment, just like I had when they asked me to perform with them.
"Let's keep the dream alive," I exclaimed.
"So you'll do it," Ryan asked hopefully.
"Hell yeah!"
"We gotta post a cover or something," Teddy said," let the fans know."
We started recording, and I was standing right in the front, Ryan on my right and Chandler on my left. Teddy was right behind me.
"Hi, I'm Tommie. And I 'm the new lead singer for Thorns on Roses. Some of you may or may not know me from my Youtube channel 'Tommiesings'. But that's kinda irrelevant. I have been asked by these three great guys to join the band and to help become part of a revival. I really do hope you, the fan base, come to accept me the way I want to accept you all. We have to keep the dream alive. This song is Weightless by All Time Low. "
