Chapter 3
I was frightened by them. Their words of hate rained on me like a thunderstorm. They yelled and lashed out. I slowly sank down to the grass covered floor, dew still twinkling on their tips. Two handfuls of grass were intertwined with my fingers as I gripped and pulled on those blades of green, wishing I could just fuse with the dirt and escape all hatred.
Hannah Stone towered over my dwindling body. Her "pack" stood at her sides: Sarah McClellan, the redhead with an attitude; Mackenzie Wellington, the Barbie lookalike; and Crystal Wellington, the Barbie's twin with an actual heart.
I had only asked Hannah Stone if she was happy. That's all I wanted to know, if the populars were happy with themselves. I NEEDED to know if, with all the luxuries they have, they still want more. I ended up in the grass with mud seeping in every nook and cranny of my bony body.
But I could tell that Hannah was thinking about my question because as the Sirens strutted off, her smile wasn't as bright, her walk wasn't as tall, her laugh wasn't as loud, and her eyes weren't darts, looking for the next target to pin down. They.. softened.
I had changed the unchangeable Hannah Stone.
