After the dentist, and my ice cream, we went back home. Dad was talking to someone over the phone and I could hear him say 'Oscar' a few times. When we got home it was five-thirty and the sun was going down. I watched it while I had my dinner, but I didn't feel that hungry, so I went to bed. Mom followed me in.
"Sweetie, you know how your father was talking on the phone the whole time back from the dentist?" said Mom closing my door behind her. I nodded. "And you know how he said 'Oscar' a few times?" she added. I nodded. The door opened and Dad walked in the room.
"Have you told him?" he said, walking over and crouching next to Mom.
"I was about to," she replied, "then you walked in, so do you want to?"
"Sure," said Dad quickly, then turned and faced me.
"O, I was talking to the principal of a school, Mr. Smith," he said, standing up and sitting down on the bed. Mom copied. "and I was telling him about you. You know, stuff like how you love Maths and how you've never been to school before." he said, waiting for me to say something. The was awkward silence for about 2 seconds, then Mom stood up and saw Alvin peeping through the door, half closed. Mom walked over, opened the door, walked out and closed it behind her. I saw her winking at me while she was closing it.
"I love you, Oscar" she whispered to me. I blew her a kiss. Dad went on about the principal and the school and stuff, then he came to the part that really shocked me.
"O, you know that this is a awesome school, and we are going there in 3 days for an interview." Dad explained.
"Wait, what! Ok so, I'm going to a real school, with real teachers and real kids?!" I say angrily.
"O! This is the best experience that you will ever get! Going to school is awesome!" said Dad trying to persuade me to go.
"Really? Name 3 things that is good about this school." I say, waiting for my reply.
"Well firstly, there are loads of kids to make friends with. And there's teachers too. And when you get to know the principal, you'll surely want to go!" replied Dad.
"Ok, well 1. I'm ugly, 2. Alvin says teachers are rude and 3. I won't meet the principal because I'm not going." I said, crossing my arms.
"Ok, we'll talk more about this in the morning, with Mom." Dad said as he stood up, off the bed.
"Good night, Dad," I say, rolling over in the bed. "I love you." I add.
"Good night, son. I love you too." he replied as he shut the door behind him, and headed down the stairs.
