James POV
James was alone in his dormitory, lying on the floor book above his head with his feet resting against the edge of his bed. There was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?"
"Me"
He rolled his eyes -of course, fawn - got up to open opened the door and there she was. She was wearing a dress. It was blue and short and had thin straps. He blurted the first thing that popped into his head. "How can you run in that?"
"What?"
"Um—"
"I can run—"
"I didn't—"
"No biggie—"He ran a hand though his hair and glanced around, confused.
Fawn considered that for a moment, then, "Do I look stupid in this dress?""No. You don't look stupid."
"Thanks," she said with heavy sarcasm. "I'm so glad to know I don't look stupid."
"Okay," he said, and felt stupid himself.
"Well, I was just going to the dance, I have tickets so..."
"Oh. Good."
"And?"
James shrugged, mystified. "And...so...have fun?"
Fawn stared at him for a very long five seconds without looking away. And then she walked down the stairs.
He closed the door and went back to his book.
About five minutes later he began to wonder if he had missed something in his brief conversation with Fawn.
Why had she come by?Even six months ago James never thought about girls. Now they tended to show up more and more often in his thoughts.
He needed to finish his book.Or he needed to find Fawn and...and talk to her. Maybe about the book?
An idea hit him with such force, he felt as if it had stopped his heart for a second: Had Fawn been asking him to go with her to the Hogwarts dance. Where people danced? No. That was crazy. She wouldn't have come to ask him to go to a dance. Would she?
No.
Maybe. His book was becoming to him, allowing him to escape his thoughts.
He made his decision very suddenly and acted on it very suddenly, in case he changed his mind. He leapt at the door and threw it open running out and crashing into a poor first second year."Sorry" James said helping them up.
"Don't worry about it" but James was already out the portrait hall, swiftly walking though the castle towards the great hall.
-----
Clare POV
It was so hot in the great hall I need some air she pushed past the sweaty bodies out into the entrance hall.
She slid down the wall and sat on the floor, knees pulled up near her chest. Glancing around she saw a few stragglers escaping the loud atmosphere and latecomers making their towards the doors, one of them being James."Hey" she waved
"Have you seen fawn" he asked glancing into the hall anxiously
Clare bit back a laugh at his frantic expression "she's near the speak..." The rest of her sentence was unnecessary as James had already disappeared. She shook her head smiling before ducking back into the hall.
Near the right hand wall she danced awkwardly while watching the people around her. James had finally found Fawn and they were dancing together. Some seventh years were 'decreatly' hanging up several charming posters about professor Snape, these were causing panic among the teachers who immediately tried to take them down. Which was proving to be difficult due to sticking charms. Charlie was dancing awkwardly in the far corner and two people were snoggin... Wait,WHAT! Is that...
James POV
I pulled her closer before slowly pulling apart and resting my forehead on hers. Staring into her eyes
FLASHBACK
"Fawn" I called.
"Hey, James" she said. "You came."
"Yeah."
"So. You think you could beat Dekka?" she asked.
The question startled him. His mouth dropped open. He knew she hated the Hufflepuff, for being better at sports, but he didn't think it was that bad.
"Kidding. Just kidding," Fawn said. "Dekka's actually very cool. Not as cool as me, of course."
"No one is as cool as you," Jack blurted.
Fawn accepted this as though it were only her natural due. "You want to dance?"
"I don't know how," James said.
"Really?"
"Really.""I could teach you."
"I'd be too embarrassed."
Fawn shrugged. "It's not like anyone is going to laugh at you."
"Yes, they would."
"No, they wouldn't."
"Yes, they would."
"No, they wouldn't."
"Yes, th" he faulted under her expression. "Fine" He finally agreed, exasperated, "teach me"The song playing was slower then usual, yet still upbeat enough that it wasn't awkward.
Slowly she instructed him and he did as asked. It was a kind of altered waltz without the awkward arm and a bit faster.
The song ended."You know your not that bad at dancing". She said
"I would be hopeless if you hadn't helped" she had Stepped qcloser to him.
"Well, that's probably true"
"Hey" he said feigning hurt, slipping his arms loosely around her waist.
The next second he was kissing her not caring if anyone saw. Her hands were behind his head deepening the kiss, their bodies pressed together.
Well... I haven't updated in a while... But.. It's here now so DONT KILL ME
