If there's one thing I'm sick of, it has to be drastic changes that are more far-fetched than my puppy doing a back-flip and making a cross-over of the Harlem Shake and Gangnam style while my older dog, who is morbidly obese and lazy as hell, joins in with a hula hoop around his massive, chunky body.
See?
Pretty far-fetched and ridiculous, right?
The girl is ugly but still has a hot guy in love with her - or so she thinks. Suddenly he cheats on her, SHOCK - HORROR!
And wham.
Suddenly she changes school and becomes mega hot, mega confident and mega WOWZER.
Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of your crap.
No offence, but I'm sure there have been plenty of girls pushed well over the edge who have never been able to make that kind of change.
I've always been incredibly shy my entire life, so much so that it borders on darn right excruciating. I can understand slowly gaining confidence, but even then, you don't become a vain, sexy beast with an insatiable hunger.
This isn't Ginger Snaps... ;)
Don't get me wrong. I love to see a character change - it's one of my favourite things to do. Make a weak character strong. Make a strong character weak and so on.
But within the first two chapters, if your character is suddenly another character all together, it makes no sense whatsoever. No offence, but it ticks me off so much.
That is just not realistic at all dudes.
