The next morning was quiet. Too quiet.
Siya lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling fan as it spun lazily above her. Outside, city was already awakemuffled voices in the corridor, distant honks, life moving on.
Her phone lay beside her.
She picked it up, unlocked the screen, and hesitated.
Abhishek.
She scrolled to his name, Abhishek Sharma 🏏 and smiled despite herself. Her thumb hovered over the keyboard for a second longer than necessary.
Then she typed.
Siya: Hey, you said you were coming. Still up?
She sent it before she could overthink. The message delivered instantly.
Siya placed the phone back on her chest, exhaling slowly. She wasn't nervous... not exactly. Just a little aware. A little curious.
Five seconds passed. Then ten and a notification popped up, Siya picked her phone again.
Abhishek: I was wondering when you'd text.
Siya: So you are up.
Abhishek: Been up for a while actually. Couldn't sleep.
Siya: Same. Thought I'd explore today... if you're still in.
Abhishek: I'm in. Give me ten minutes.
Siya: Don't be late.
Abhishek: Wouldn't dare.
seen.
She locked her phone, staring at the screen for a second even after it went dark.
Somewhere down the corridor, a door clicked shut.
Siya sat up, smoothing her hair, a soft smile playing on her lips. She walked toward the dressing table, the cool marble floor grounding her thoughts as she stopped in front of the mirror.
Her reflection stared back at her, calm but alert, eyes brighter than they had been earlier.
She opened the small jewellery box and picked out a pair of oxidized silver earrings. They were simple but bold, the kind that didn't try too hard. She held them up against her face for a second before putting them on.
They matched perfectly with her outfit, blue wide-leg jeans that sat comfortably on her waist, a black sleeveless kurta that fell just right, and a red shawl style dupatta draped loosely over her shoulder, adding a quiet pop of color.
