"Oh my gosh, you're serious? Wow, thank you so much. Really, this means the world... Wait. Lexi?!" Lexi's laughter filled the phone, confirming my suspicion. "You know, when I first met you I really though we could be friends, now I'm not so sure." I said in a teasing tone.

A shuffling sound came through and Adrian speaks up, "Don't worry River, you'll get it. And, it was my idea so don't blame her." He stated, referring to the job I hoped to gaining after I'd spent two months working towards at the intern-ship.

"Uh uh. That must be exactly why you just had to prank call me, eh?"

"Well that and the fact that we're pulling up your driveway right.... Now." I peaked out my bedroom window overlooking the long driveway. Near the road, there's a van getting closer.

"What do you mean? Which one of you owns a van? Since when?!" Slight panic set in with great confusion.

"Surprise!" They yelled together-- and hung off. Eyes wide and stumbling, I made it through my family home and out the front door right as the van pulled up in front of my house. My clique of around 8 friends piled out of the van as the phone, still in my hand, rang.

"Hello?" I said, questionly, holding up a finger to my friends, meaning I'll only take a minute, then turn my back to them.

"Hi... River Rudauwski?" A confident female voice asked.

"Yes. Um, this is she."

"It's Mrs. Jenkins from Dragonfly's Design."

"Oh, hello. Um, can I confirm that this is not a prank call because I literally got one just a minute ago." I shot a glare at Lexi and Adrian.

Mrs. Jenkins let out a hearty laugh, "No this is real, I assure you. Congratulations; you got the job!"

"Wow, that's incredible! Thank you! Did... My friends by any chance know about this before me?" I turned to face my friends.

"Yes they did. I'm sorry, they were very persistent."

"Well thanks anyway Mrs. Jenkins. It's nice to know we'll be seeing more of each other." I think back to all the times she'd given me tips on getting on the bosses good side. Andy Palmer was a hard nut to crack and Mrs. Jenkins seemed to be the only nutcracker strong enough. She definitely has a way with people.

"Certainly! I'll e-mail you the details for later. Have fun celebrating!" The elder woman hung up.

As I turned to face my friends they were already coming at me with hugs and hurrahs.

"No, guys stop, I really hate you right now!"

Adrian laughed "Come on guys! We have plans remember?"

I love my clique-- I always have. We've been together since the early high school days. From the beginning there were always new people coming and others leaving but there's four of us that have been here since our original group in grade nine. Me, of course, and Adrian as well as Lynn and Shelby. That kind of makes us closer than the others but not by a lot-- they just weren't there the whole time. Scott, Beverly and Damian came along the year after-- and Sandra and Lexi just seem to be around to get a specific someone's attention, if you know what I mean.
