Dinner From Hell

My mother, scratch that everyone was looking at me with shock.  The smile that had be on my mother’s face had been wiped off in an instance. But it wasn’t my mother that scolded me oh no it was far worse. Her scolding me would have been ten times better.

“Cameron Gail Rowan we do not refer to our guests as ‘creepy stalking bastards’. I’m terribly sorry Mr. Alastair and Mrs. Alastair Cameron usually doesn’t act like this. Now Cameron I want you to apologize to Aurelius over there.” My father thundered who looked like an older version of both Morgan and Codell with trimmed brown hair that had been grayed with age, the same dark brown eyes one of the only things I had inherited from him and a tall lean figure.

“But this is the creep from earlier that tried to rape and kidnaps me.”

I over exaggerating obviously. Which was something I was sometimes inclined to do? It was a terribly habit. “What on earth are you talking about Cameron? Someone tell me what’s going on this instant. “Dad questioned.

“First of all I didn’t try to kidnap or rap-” A male voice that belonged to Mr. Creeper himself, what was my father called him?

Adrian, no. Adam, no. Alex, no. Aurelius that’s right. Wait what the hell kind of name was Aurelius Alastair; I’d hate to hear his middle name. Turn my gaze to him which I hoped was icy which from the way he jerk backwards was my small goal was achieved.

I said, “Really because from where I was standing it. Being grabbed from behind and then being followed that seems like it would be the natural conclusion would be that you were trying to do something to me.”

“That’s not what happ-” Aurelius tried to say.

“I think I can explain Liam and Fiona,” Mr. Alastair interrupted Aurelius and addressed my father and mother earning the attention of everyone in the room.

“Earlier today, Aurelius and your daughter Cameron ran into each other and Cameron looks a lot like Aurelius ex-girlfriend who is no longer with us,” he said with an emphasis on the last few word and a glance in Aurelius direction before continuing.

“And you can imagine what kind of a shock it must of bean and he overreacted, chased after Cameron and must have given her quite the fright when he did.

“Wow nice going sis’ really smooth.” Codell who I had just noticed was beside me muttered.

“See it was all just a bit of a misunderstanding.” said a woman standing beside Mr. Alastair who I could only assume was Mrs. Alastair.

“Yeah I can’t really blame you Cameron if I had saw my dope of a brother acting and I didn’t know who he was I would have threatened to Taser him too. I’m Chester by the way.” Looking up I saw a man mostly in his mid-twenties standing beside my mom.

I gave a small smile to Chester before looking down at the ground waiting for someone to break the awkward silence.  Finally mom decided that enough was enough and moved us into the dining room. Taking a sit next to Codell I made certain that I avoid Aurelius gaze. I was completely embarrassed.

Only I would have the great idea to threaten to Taser my father’s boss’s son. On the day said boss and family is supposed to being come over for a dinner. It was an elaborate dinner that I was positive my mom spent all day in the kitchen cooking.

Glancing around the table let my gaze linger on the Alastair family. It was quite obvious where Chester and Alastair got their good looks. Mr. and Mrs. Alastair whose names I learn where Remus and Desdemona. Both had an almost Amazonian look with their black hair and tall height, curvy figure in Desdemona’s case. The most amazing feature in all of them were their bright chocolate brown eyes, they almost looked into your soul. Then I realized that I was looking directly at Aurelius and he was looking at me!

Stiffening slightly I turn my attention to the conversation that my father and Remus  were currently having a conversation about his company Immortals Sums. Which if I remember correctly the business dabbles in a little bit of everything. Anything from what I understood. They could have been a business that focused on food one day to weapons the next day but I wasn’t completely sure?

“... The profit from the new merge with the company in Tokyo should rise by at least five percent,” My father reported to a question asked by Remus.

“Well we need to get one of the company’s in Germany or Britain in on the deal to or we won’t make the sale to Europe...”

That’s when I tuned out and listened to mom’s conversation with Desdemona and Chester.

“ Well I see where Chester gets his dark tone form” said mom.

“ Why thank you Fiona” Desdemona said with an echo of agreement from Chester.

I finally looked at Chester like looked at him and he was really attractive for a college student. That’s when I heard my mom asked the dread question, the question no child wants to hear their parents ask to an attractive guy whether or not they were interested in them, “So Chester do you have a girlfriend?”

I tried to hide the groan and ignore the sinkers that were coming out of Codell’s mouth.

Then he literally laughed out loud and so I did the only reasonable thing someone in my situation would I gave him the best glare that I hoped conveyed that when this dinner was over he was dead.

“ Did I say something wrong?” mom said oblivious to the issue she brought up.

That’s when Codell really couldn't hold it in anymore and between laughs he said      “Can...Can I...be...excused p-p-please?

“But you hardly touched your dinner.”

“ I have to use the restroom mom ok?” said Codell before it could get any more awkward.

Receiving a nod of approval Codell went to get up me grabbing onto his arm I yanked him down so I could whisper in his ear. “Insert Something Witty or Funny Here”.

Then Aurelius hearing the exchange burst out into uncontrollable laughter earning the attention of everyone.  Flushing red I sunk down in my chair wishing I would have straightened my hair so I could hide behind it. Huffing I tried to come up with a retort. But was unable to when I was cut off by Codell saying loud enough for the whole dinner party to hear.

“ She is too manly to have a boyfriend I mean to do you see the way she’s manhandling me. No way anyone would want her she could get a guys in general especially one older than her. That would take a miracle in itself.”

Holding my breath I began to count to ten. One. Breathe in. Two Bre-. What the hell was his problem. Where had that even come from. That ladies and gentlemen is when I went off! I got up out of my seat WITHOUT being excused and just before I hit Codell in the face someone or something stopped me.

Looking up I was surprised to see Aurelius holding my arm in a loose grip. Yanking my arm away then I heard dads booming voice “Cameron  Gail Rowan,”

A phrase I was becoming extremely familiar with uttered before continuing, “I don’t know what has gotten into you but are out of control you need to apologize to Codell and go to your room. And don’t think that we won’t be talking about this later.

“I’m going to walked her to her room Mr.Rowan that way I can make sure that she won’t get at her brothers. If that’s okay with you Mr. Rowan?”

“I really do apologize for Cameron's behavior she normally doesn’t act like this. Of course you can. Thank you.” My father said.

“ I am glad that I don’t have a say in what happens to me in this house and no, Mr. Alastair, you can’t walk me to my room!”

“Cameron that’s enough you are going to let Aurelius walk you to your room and that’s final.” My mother interjected.
