I darted out of class as soon as the final bell rang; desperate to get out of this prison we call school. I'm supposed to be hanging out with Jake, my best friend today after school and I can't wait to see him. It feels like it's been ages since I last talked to him, even though it has been 2 hours, but I can't help it he's been there for me since day 1 of first grade and I love the guy like a brother. Lately though, my perspective on him has changed and I find myself thinking about him while I daydream in class. I've never felt this way about another guy before, I mean He's one of the biggest "chick magnets" in the whole school! He could have anyone he wanted, yet all I want is him. These feelings are scaring me and they only get worse every time I see him.

"Hey Zane, wait up dude!" I turned around as I heard the voice... his voice. It was smooth like silk and, NO! I have to stop thinking like this, it's wrong and I'll only end up getting hurt in the end.

"Hey Jake! I can't wait till tonight! When exactly are you coming over again?"

"Six-thirty and I'm going to bring some pizza with me so we can pig out while we play some video games."

"Sound like a plan! I can't wait, but I've got to go take care of some stuff before tonight so I'll see you then."

"Alright, later dude" he said as we fist bumped.

When we touched, it sent shock waves of electricity up my arm and I almost jumped from the unexpectedness of it. I watched as he walked away and couldn't help but notice how he walked with a confidence that I could never pull off. He looked so sure of himself like he could do anything he wanted and get away with it.

Later that night I was fidgeting around, waiting for him to arrive and I felt really nervous for some reason. I kept tapping my fingers on everything, which is a nervous habit I picked up in middle school. I hate it but I just can't seem to shake it and Jake always tells me that all of the furniture in my house will end up having finger prints permanently imprinted into them.

45 minutes later I'm still waiting for him to show up and I'm getting a little worried about him. I hope he's okay. Right as I pick my phone up to call him he comes bursting through the door yelling about how he was held up at work or something.

"Jake! Where on earth have you been?! Don't you know that I've been waiting here waiting for you for an hour?" I screamed at him. He cowered at my words and gave me a sheepish look.

"Look, Zane I'm really sorry that I worried you but I got held up at work because they wanted me to close up shop before I left. I should've called yo-"

"It's okay Jake, I'm not actually mad at you. I was just worried and I thought you might have gotten hurt is all" I said as I cut him off.

He walked over and enveloped me into a bone-crushing hug to show he was sorry. I swear he can be such a baby some times.

"C'mon big guy, let's go play some video games and eat some pizza."

"Okay! I'm going to grab a soda from the fridge and I'll be right up" he replied.

It looked like something was troubling him as he walked into the kitchen. I dismissed it as him feeling guilty for not calling me, although he doesn't normally stay like that when he does something that gets on my nerves, but I'm sure he'll tell me in his own time.

"Hey Zane, can I talk to you for a second" he inquired as we were getting ready to go to sleep.

"Sure. I'm all ears."
