an excerpt from the light novel "Aftermath"



He had no eyes.

You can see on the sunken expression on his ocula. Yet, he seemed content. Content standing at a corner of a street, right next to a stop sign.

Content staying at the same place for hours. Content, cupping his ear with one of his hands, with an old and used cellphone in between.

Content, waiting for a call that will never come.

Waiting for nothing, waiting forever.


And I pass through him everyday, still waiting, grasping the worn-out cellphone as it was dear life.

At the end of the day, I pass the same road.

He was still there, phone next to his ear as if meditating, carefully listening to mysterious words or music that would grasp you at their lyrics. And he stood there, silent, still carefully listening, maybe patiently waiting for a ring or a voice, salvation maybe, someone to take him home. Blind as he is, I do not think he cannot call anyone. So all he could do is wait.

For hours, he stood there, waiting. Waiting forever,
