Chapter 5

The rest of the week was uneventful, it followed a pattern. I woke up, went to school where Adrien was always waiting for me at the drop off area. We went to first period English, we then had gym where we would meet with Christine. We met up with Shane later on at lunch and the day would end with Adrien walking me to the pickup spot to wait for my dad.

I was getting used to Adrien being around, but I wasn’t sure how long that would last. I didn’t want to get too attached, because I didn’t want to feel anything when he decided to go back to his life. I was positive his life didn’t entail following the new girl around.

On Friday as we were walking to my chorus class, I said “Adrien, you do realize that you don’t have to take me to class anymore? Is that usually what you would do?”

“I know I don’t have to take you to class but I want to. And no, I don’t usually do that, I would only show someone around on the first day and that would be it.”

“Okaaaay, so why do you?

“I don’t know, honestly I just do when it comes to you, you’re different.”

“Well if you ever feel like going back to your life, feel free to do so”

“I doubt it, maybe during soccer season. I basically just hang out with Shane and the guys from the team, I’m sure they can manage without me.”

I went to class and as soon as class was over Adrien was already waiting.

“Do you have any plans for this weekend?” he asked

“Nope, probably church.”

“May I call you then?”

On the third school day my dad had gotten me a cell phone, something about needing to be able to reach me in school. I had given the number to Christine the next day, but that was it. I never gave it to Adrien, he never asked.

“Um, yeah, sure”

I gave him the phone number.

“Thanks, can you receive text?”

“Yes, but Adrien, I have one condition”

“Which is?”

“If you call, you have to speak English” He was about to say something but I continued “You can speak slowly, I probably won’t understand and will ask you to repeat things, but that is the only way I will learn”

“Okay”

“Also, you have to let me know when I’m saying the wrong thing, if I can’t answer in English I can tell you in French and you can translate.”

“Sure”

“Thanks”

Just then my dad’s car pulled up, I said bye to Adrien and got in the car. I had been making sure that my dad didn’t see him now; I didn’t want him to start having any ideas.

Since it was Friday, I didn’t have anything to do, I decided that it would be a good idea to go visit my dad’s business, maybe meet some of the people. It was a professional translator and interpreters agency, it offered full service translations of documents, court interpreters etc. they worked with individuals as well as small businesses.
