"What are you doing here?" I ask the boy in front of me.
He raises an eyebrow at me. "I could ask you the same thing."
I cringe. "It's a long story. Now why are you here, Blake? I thought you and Jake aren't getting along."
Blake stuffs his hands in his pockets and shrugs. "We were working on coming up with ideas for the math project."
I glare at him and he turns his gaze to the floor. "And you didn't ask me to come?"
"What's going on here?" a voice asks, putting his hands around my waist.
I immediately shrug Jake off and turn around to glower at him. "According to Blake over here, you guys were meeting up and coming up with ideas for the math project."
"So?" he says. "What's wrong with that?"
"Without me," I add, and his face turns red.
"We didn't mean to," Jake says once his skin turns to its normal complexion. "We didn't think you would actually want to come."
I put my hands on my hips. "I'm part of this project just like you two are. It's not nice or gentleman-like to exclude me."
Blake's face is a deep shade of red when he says, "Sorry."
Jake smirks at home and nudges his ribs. He says something to Blake who hits him on the arm with a scowl, but when Blake sees me, his expression softens.
He clears his throat. "Well, wanna work on ideas now? We can go to the kitchen."
I cross my arms. "I don't want to anymore."
Jake throws his arms up in the air with an exasperated sigh. "Women are so confusing," he mutters under his breath, earning a hard nudge from me. "Hey!" he exclaims with a frown. "You didn't have to do that."
Blake gives me a pleading look and my heart does a flip. "Please stay."
"Fine," I say.
"Follow me," Jake says, leading us to the kitchen.
After an hour of brainstorming ideas, I drop the pencil on the table and push the chair away from the table. "I can't take this anymore," I say, rubbing my temples. "Too much math and too many numbers."
"Well," Jake says, rushing off. "I gotta pee."
I drop my hand back on the table and turn to Blake. "So how have you been?"
"Good," he says. I feel something warm lay onto of my hand and I look to see that it is Blake's.
With my heart hammering in my chest, I look everywhere else except at Blake's face. Suddenly, I am very aware of every movement I make and every movement he makes. I don't pay attention to the awkward silence. Just his hand on mine.
Oh my God! Blake is almost literally touching my hand! My chest squeals and jump up and down.
I clear my throat and finally turn to look at Blake who is watching my every move. "I'm not exactly the best at math."
"Well, I could tutor you," Jake says, coming from the bathroom. Blake and I immediately take out hands back and place them by our laps, as if we were caught doing something wrong.
"It's fine," I say, but I hoping Jake doesn't actually tutor me. It would suck to have to spend extra time with Jake when I don't have to.
"No, I'm actually serious. I do have A's in math, even if you find that hard to believe. You don't have to worry about me teaching you the wrong material."
