"Mom, may I please change out of my church clothes?"
"But sweetie, you look so nice."
"Mom...please."
She looked at my outfit and got these eyes on her that begged me to keep it on. I gave her my puppy dog eyes and she gave in.
"Okay, fine." I ran up the steps.
"But fold up your outfit!!"
"Not a chance!"
I closed my bedroom door and stripped down. I heard a knock on my door.
"Just wear something nice! They have a son a couple years older than you! He just got off school for Christmas break."
"Oh great, a college student. Who only has his mind on one thing," I mumbled to myself.
I grabbed a kneelength, purple dress off my hangers. It had a medium-low cut on the chest. A band around the waist so it flowed out. And a lace trim. It was nice and simple.
I did my makeup and straightened my hair.
"Sweetie, come down here and meet the new neighbors."
I groaned and came out of my room. As I walked down the stairs I heard my parents talking to other people. I see people with dark hair and bright green eyes. One of them was a young boy, maybe about 14 years old. He gave me a smile and a wink. On the inside I was projectile vomiting but on the outside I smiled. This is going to be a long dinner. I mean, he was cute, but come on! he's a kid!!!
"Our other son will be here soon, he took a nap and woke up when we left."
"Oh that's fine. Our door is open for him," my father said.
"Hey hot stuff, I'm Scott," the kid said and winked again.
"Evangeline, and sorry, I'm not interested in kids."
He looked at me with anger in his eyes and I just smiled and skipped away. I took my pace at the table.
Five minutes into our meal, the front door opened, and a voice carried in.
"Hey, sorry I'm late. I forgot we had this!"
Since I was faceing away from the door, I didn't know what he looked like.
"Well it's nice to meet you. Please come eat. Sweetie introduce yourself to this young man."
I sighed and got out of my seat. When I turned around, I froze immediately. It was the guy from church.
"Michaelangelo, but my friends call me Angel." He smiled at me.
"Evangeline...same."
"It's nice to meet you. I hope my brother hasn't been too much trouble for you. He has a hard time controlling his mouth around beautiful ladies."
"Hey!" His brother screamed.
"Sup bro?!" Angel smiled and sat across from my seat.
"Honey, aren't you going to sit back down and eat?" my dad asked.
He broke me out of my small trance and got my attention.
"Um...yeah..."
"May I be excused for a few minutes?"
"Me too?" Angel asked as we looked at our parents.
"Fine," our parents said at the same time, "but no smoking."
"No promises!" We yelled at the same time. Then, him and I looked at each other and I somewhat smiled. It's the first time I really smiled in over a year.
We got outside and Angel followed after me. I wasn't expectiong to actually smoke, but then Angel pulled out a pack of Camel and I couldn't help myself anymore. It was my favorite brand.
"Um...may I," I quietly asked him.
He nodded his head at me and gave me one. I sat down on the patio swing as he lit my cig.
We sat in silence for the longest time until he broke it.
"You don't talk much, do you?"
"Not around people I don't know."
"Then let's get to know each other. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot of each other."
I shrugged and nodded at the same time. "So...Michaelangelo. Friends with the other teenage mutant ninja turtles?"
He hung his head and chuckled at me. "Ironically...yes. My best friends."
"Are you serious?" I asked laughing. Angel nodded. Then, I laughed at least 10X harder.
"Well what about you? Does Ms. Evangeline have an unrequited love for a firefly named Ray and a reptile friend that plays the trumpet?"
At that I stopped laughing. "Hey! Princess and the Frog was an amazing movie and I cried when Ray died."
It was his turn to start laughing uncontrollably.
"And as for the firefly thing, I'm not into bestiality...or insects."
He started laughing even more.
"So what college do you go to?" I asked somewhat curious.
"I'm not in college."
"But my parents told me that you came home from school for the holidays." I was incredulous that my parents lied.
"I am off of school. I go to a special school though."
"Which school?" I asked curiously.
His eyes gleamed with a hint of mystery. "You'll see...very soon."
Then he walked inside.
I would like to dedicate this Chapter to EtherealRose. She made my book cover and it is just absolutely amazing. I've never seen a better cover for an angel story before.
