I was 5 when I saw a full dream. I saw a little girl crying alone in her room. She was so sad and depressed. I wanted to help her but I couldn't. It made me put my life in perspective. For all of my childhood I would ignore unpopular kids and would ask for all kinds of toys. I was a spoiled, selfish brat. So I tried to become kinder; I became friends with those who needed one, I volunteered to help the poor and homeless, and started taking Psychology courses so I could become a therapist. But still I will never be able to help her.

Present day

I woke up to the beeping of my alarm clock. It read 5:00 A.M. I got out of bed and immediatly stuck my head under the shower head and soaked my hair with cold water. As soon as it hit me I woke up from the cold water. I looked in the mirror and studied how tired I looked: My red hair was messed up from my weird sleep habits and my hazel eyes had bags under them. I was considered beautiful but I never wore any make-up because I believed that it was vain and a waste of money. In fact I had a whole list of things I would forbid myself from doing in regard to people who didn't have the luxury of extra things or in regard to people who would make bad choices. But I'll get into that later.

While I was drying my hair I thought about my dteam this time. I remembered Adriana throwing cookies at a jock? That was....Interesting. But she was smiling and laughing, so that's all that mattered. However, I couldn't remember what happened at the end. Oh well.

After I stepped out I felt refreshed and awake. I looked at the clock; it was already 5:30! If I didn't hurry I would be late for my running club's fundraiser marathon!

I got dressed as fast as possible in my running outfit. I ran downstairs and grabbed an orange for breakfast. After peeling it I grabbed my gym bag and ran out the door heading towards the town center.

As soon as I arrived I saw my coach and some of my team along with other teams from surrounding cities warming up. I made it on time. My coach looked up when she saw me and walked over.

"Hey! I'm glad you could make it! It seems that 3 girls had to skip so we need the rest of you to try to make up for them."

"Ok you can count on me!" I said with a determined smile.

She laughed, "Alright calm down you don't have to push yourself too hard. Just remember what we're running for."

I nodded and smiled. I could never forget. We were running for a leukemia awareness marathon where we would get 100 dollars for every mile. I was aiming for 10 miles.

**Time skip**

I could see the 12 mile checkpoint coming up. I was exhausted. As soon as I reached it I fell on my knees panting. My coach cane over with a water bottle and towel.

I drank it eagerly as she said talked, "Great job Alyssa! This is the farthest anyone has made it! Everyone stopped after the 8 mile checkpoint. I'm really proud of you!"

After draining the entire bottle I replied, "Well all I had to do was concetrate on why we were running."

She smiled back and helped me up. We walked over to a bench and waited until the assistant coach would cone around with the bus and take everyone home.

After I got dropped it was already 7:30. I took a shower and got dressed for school. I was wearing my red sweater with blue skinny jeans and black flats. I always thought you should dress your mood. In this case I was feeling cheerful, but then again I always do.

I came down stairs and saw my mom in her robe drinking coffee while reading the newspaper in the kitchen. She looked up and pointed towards a plate of pancakes with seggs and bacon for me.

"Thank you mother!" I said while I kissed her on the cheek. She smiled backand nodded. You see, my mother was a mute and couldn't communicate to me or my father except through nnotes, hand gestures, and a little bell she used to call out for us. Still, I cherished her with all my heart.

I sat down and ate everything on the plate. I also believed you should eat everything you eat because it would be wasteful and disrespectful to families who had nothing.

After I finished I grabbed my satchel and pulled my burgandy beanie that matched my sweater over my head. As you can tell my favorite color is red.

As I opened the door I called, "Ok I'm off! Bye mom!"

She rang her bell and waved from her chair.

I took out my bike from the garage and rode to school. As I was riding I suddenly thought of Adriana. She was crying again in her room while her parents were arguing; quite differwnt from my earlier happy dream. I felt a small tear escape my eye. I remembered what I told the coach: "Remember what you're doing it for." She was my reason. Everything I do to help people will be in honor of her.

I arrived at school and locked my bike to the racks. As I walked to my first class people in the hall would say good morning to me and wave. Even people I didn't know would yell hey to me. Then again, I think everyone knows the class president.

Just as I was a few doors from my class a girl ran up and hugged me. I looked at her surprised, but then I recognized her; she was one of the homeless students my club and I started fundraisers and can food drives for. She looked up and then immediately blushed. I smiled at her and gave her a hug back. She let go and then walked away.

I sat down in my seat and took out my notes. I started reviewing my notes from yesterday until my friend Willa sat in front of me.

"Mornin' Woods! Being a good little student once again I see." she said in a teasing voice.

"Don't act like you don't study too," I replied.

"Pfft! What's that!?" she said as she giggled.

I lauhed. This was my best friend Willa Castellan, who was a good person under her sarcasm and frequent naps during class. She was a new student in our freshman year but I befriended her and we've been friends since.

The bell rang and Willa turned around in her seat as the teacher came in. After the usual mornibg announcements he said that we had a new student today.

Everyone was excited to see who it was and whispers traveled throughout the room.

"Come in," the teacher said.

A boy with black hair with dyed streaks of silver. He was wearing a plain blue t-shirt and jeans with black Converse. He looked like a character straight out of a book. More whispers erupted from the class.

"Hello," he said with a smile, "I'm Jason Conner. It's nice to meet you."

Everyone went silent, mesmorized by his cool voice.

He looked to our teacher, "Where do I sit?"

"Oh!" he said startled, " Yes, umm...You can sit in any empty seat."

He looked around and headed towards the empty seat next to me. After he did, the class went back to normal, as if finally free from his spell.

"Welcome to our school," I said with a smile.

"Thank you, Alyssa Woods."
