Natasha's Pov
"Dammit" my brother swore, his eyes glaring holes into the current tree he was trying to obliterate, yet failing miserably at. "Concentrate Nick!" I snapped, he had been trying to blow a hole in the same tree for hours and now my patience was wearing thin.
"we've been here since the morning and im kinda hungry and tired, can't we try again tomorrow?" I said lifting myself off from the wet patch of grass I was sitting on and moved towards my brother who was standing there with a crestfallen look on his face.
"Doesn't matter bro all you need is just a little bit of practice" I said comfortingly, smiling encouragingly at him.
His dark obsidion eyes flickered to me and he smiled slightly pushing his coal black out of his eyes and let out a frustrated sigh
"I just......wanted to be able to master fire" he mutters annoyed.
See my brother and I were special, we were different from all the other kids at the orphanage. We had realised it out when we were 8 and had accidently magically stopped a falling tree hitting us when we had accidentally wandered into forest. From then on we'd known that we were magic and had practiced our abilities until we'd mastered the art of controlling the elements and nature, transporting one's self to another destination, reading peoples thoughts and mind and blocking our own thoughts from each other (that one had come naturally to us).
Nick was better than me at reading peoples minds but I better at controlling the elements, a skill he hadn't perfected yet.
"we'll try again tomorrow" I said disdainfully looking at the tall willow which hadn't each been damaged to the slightest.
We both turned and trudged miserably back to the orphanage leaving the brilliant dark green of the forest behind us for the dull grey building ,that was the orphanage, which loomed ahead of us. Its gruesome chipped griffins which were perched on top of the building that stared unrelentingly at you, almost accusingly and peeling grey exterior walls were almost as unwelcoming and unfriendly as its inhabitants.
We slipped inside through the back door hoping to be unnoticed and padded up the stairs to our bed room making sure not to wake any of the other kids, we'd been practising for such a long time that we'd forgoten how late it had become.
I quietly opened the door, freezing as it released a load creaking noise which seemed to reverberate around the whole building. I let out a relieved sigh when nothing happened. I slid in to the room, Nick right behind me.
Our dingy small room only contained 2 thin mattresses and a poorly constructed wardrobe which we hardly used since the only spare clothes we had were our church clothes which we wore every Sunday to mass whether we wanted to go or not, preferrably not.
I fell onto my matteress and watched Nick do the same. We were both too exhausted to even take our shoes off.
I tried of get comfortable of the thin matteress to no avail.
I moved and looked at my brother's now slightly snoring face
He had dark obsidian eyes which were now covered by pale eye lids that had thick eyelashes on the end of them, he had thick coal black hair which contrasted against his pale skin. Nick was good looking but his quiet disposition made girls wary of him not that he even noticed them anyway. Nick was my twin brother so I also had black hair and black eyes yet my skin was a peach colour instead of pale white like Nick's.
I dont know who we inherited our looks fron since my first ever memory was of the orphanage and I dont remember anything beforehand. Sometimes on nights like these when I can't sleep I would dream about my parents. My mother having long tresses of curly black hair like mine and my father having the hauntingly dark obsidian eyes that Nick and I are known for.
My eyes drifted off to the peeling white washed ceiling and I try to forget about that stupid dream that will never come true but my imaginary parents faces seem to be stuck in my head, taunting me. I clear my head and think about tomorrow........yes, tomorrow , the day we escape from the orphanage.
