There once was a girl who loved the world.

Her laugh was true and sincere,

and her smile: contagious to all who were near.

She carried herself oh-so-well, with a bounce in her step, and lightness in her feet.

Her voice was as soft as silk and just like honey: so very sweet.

There once was a girl who tolerated the world.

Everyday was worse than the last.

Every night she found herself being haunted by her past.

Blue and black hung about her eyes.

She smiled and laughed, but it was only her disguise.

There once was a girl who hated the world.

Her happiness-a mask,

and every breath was a difficult task.

She thought to herself,  "What, now, is the meaning of life?"

She stared at her wrist and for one last time, reached for the knife.

And now she loves, nor hates, nor tolerates.

Because she is no longer in the world.
