The selection (Celeste)

Celeste already knew she was going to make The Selection. I mean, who wouldn't choose her? She was beautiful, a two, and a model. What prince in their right mind would want more? This story goes along with another I'm writing, called The Selection (Kriss). If you've ever read The Selection by Kierra Cass, I bet your wondering what's going through everyone else's minds other than just America's. well, here's your answer. Here's an overview of the castes:

1 - Royalty and Religious Figures. Maxon Schreave and his family are Ones. A position of power and respect.

2 - Celebrities, including Athletes, singers, and actors/actresses & Military members (Celeste Newsome is a Two and does modeling)

3 - "The Great Minds"; Inventors, Teachers, Writers. Girls that were part of The Selection are also part of this caste, unless they are a natural two. Kriss Ambers is a two.

4 - Merchants (Shop Owners/ Vendors) and Farmers. America Singer's brother-in-law is a factory worker and Anna Farmer is from a family of farmers; both are Fours. Marlee Tames was also a four before being chosen for the Selection.

5 - Artists; including stage actors, classical musicians, "and even the occasional clown". America Singer and her family are fives.

6 - Domestics, including secretaries and maids. Aspen Leger and the servants at the palace are Sixes.

7 - Manual Laborers, including "trash collectors, ditch diggers, movers". When signing up for The Selection, America notes "a girl, obviously a Seven, still in her work clothes. Her muddy boots might not make the picture, but the dust on her overalls probably would. A few yards back another Seven was sporting a tool belt." (34)

8 - "Untouchables". In the deleted scene from Ch. 8 it is noted that eights are "People who had been abandoned or orpahned with no way to prove their caste. And then people who fell into heavy drug use, the mentally and physically handicapped, they were all unemployable and left in the streets to beg".
