The rain was a comforting sound. I looked out the window. The sky was tar-black and the large clouds were moving towards me. I heard a tapping on the window and then it became a pitter-patter. Puddles began plinking as the rainfall became heavier. The roofs of the cars danced with spray and I could hear the murmuring of the rain through the window. Oregon was a lovely place to live if you enjoyed the rain.

I sighed and looked back to my book, The Essential Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, he was such a great writer. All of his work was amazing, beautiful and yet a different style. One of my favorite poems by Edgar must be A Dream within a Dream. He explores the difference between our perceptions of life and the effects of time. He agrees that his life has been a dream, but he suggests that everything "is but a dream within a dream." He stands on the shore of the ocean, holding grains of sand as he cries. He cannot keep the sand from running out of his hand, and he wonders if he cannot save even one grain from the surf.

His writing gets to me every time so I close the book and set it next to my dark brown nightstand that stands beside my single bed. I traced the edge of my bed with my finger tips and felt the soft blue comforter lightly glaze them. I didn't have much in m room but I loved everything I had. To the dark gray walls, the desk in the corner of my room, the book shelf filled with many books, and to the small decorations of stars I put everywhere; it all reminded me of how simple life can be and how little to nothing people have.

I grew up poor and my parents weren't together anymore. Things went downhill for me so I focused all my time in school. I had to move a grand total of 3 times in my life. My parents remarried and seemed happy but I never was. I had to live with my dad my whole life and even though he took care of me, he wasn't emotional the best person to have around. He had anger problems and refused to get help. He grew up in "simple" times and didn't want the future to change. He didn't like the new iPhones, the newer cars, hair style trends, fashion, and anything that didn't have that "old fashion" style to it. He had his moments of goodness but they never lasted. There was always a twist to his kindness in some way. Everything you say could easily be turned around on you and you would end up the bad guy. Either way, he wasn't the ideal father for me.

I went downstairs skipping one to two steps at a time and once I got to the bottom my heart dropped. I looked down at my feet and blushed a little. I heard myself let out a sharp and quick squeal. I went to down back upstairs so I could change because I realized I wasn't dress for this occasion. As I turned to go upstairs, he grabbed my shoulders and swung me around. I closed my eyes and held my breath. "Oh my god" I thought to myself. How could he be home? Was it already September? I swallowed my fear and slowly opened one eye at a time.

His bright green eyes were so soft and beautiful. I couldn't believe how amazing his jawline was and so defined. I wanted to run my hands through his sandy brown hair of his but I moved my hand back. I couldn't say anything but he gave a sly smile and wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close.

"Hey, Its been awhile" he said in a husky voice.

"Shane" I said back to him with a sweet surprise yet shocking attitude.
