Dan, you are getting married you big prick!" Louise opened the door loudly, only to find Dan in front of the mirror, fixing his bow tie. He was really getting married today. He was going to legally become Daniel James Lester, something he had doodled endlessly on papers when he wasn't paying attention at all or just said it to see how it sounds. It was the event he had imagined the first time he and Phil had exchanged the first 'I love you's and at that time, he had thought it was completely mental that he was thinking so far, to the point of marrying him but here was he standing today, on his wedding day, prepared to say 'I do' to the first and last man he ever loved. "I can't believe this is happening."
"Thanks for the info, I didn't quite notice it." He replied sarcastically but then smiled warmly at himself. Eh, screw all the 'being cool' act he had planned on putting all day. He was getting fucking married to Phil. It's not like you get married to your favorite youtuber every day, he wasn't going to try to act cool about it. It was Phil Lester for fuck's sake.
"Are you really going to vlog the whole wedding? When you have professional photographers and cameramen in every corner of the room?" She asked, rolling her eyes at the mess Dan had created. "And you had your outfit prepared, why is this room a mess?"
"Don't ask. And yes, I know but I want to do it myself." And that's how much of a twat Dan was. He was going to vlog the whole ceremony and upload the video tomorrow, without giving any warning. His fans were probably waiting for some Dil video, some crazy, weird collab or just a selfie but he was going to upload a footage of his goddamn wedding, just like that. They would go crazy, that's for sure but Dan was making 2022 happen faster than it was planned. Wasn't that what they had been dreaming of? "Where is Phil?"
"In his room. He is getting ready himself." She said, walking up to Dan, staring at him like his mother had this morning. "You two are the most handsome grooms I have ever seen in my life and I think I'm going to cry right now."
"Aw, don't." He cooed, wrapping his hands around her and embracing her into a tight hug. "You are going to make me cry too, I swear to God."
"Okay, okay I'll go now before I become a crying mess." She chuckled, pecked Dan's cheek and walked out the room. Dan just stood there with that goofy smile plastered on his lips. It was his fucking wedding day. He took his phone out of his pocket before he embarrassed himself in front of, well himself, any further and put it on
"That should do it." He muttered before he got out of the room. His parents and Adrian were waiting on one of the suites and as soon as he stepped in, he was attacked by hugs and loud sobs from his mother. "Mom, it's going to be okay. I'm getting married, not dying."
"My little Daniel." She said, before hugging him. "This is finally happening."
"Was I that hopeless that you actually never thought I would get married?" Dan teased. She chuckled hugging him.
"No silly, I was just waiting for you two to grow a pair and propose." She said, making Dan gasp in surprise at the choice of words. "What? It has been seven years already, everyone started placing bets on when it was happening."
"Mom! Those are not really nice words to say at a wedding. " He said warningly while Mrs. Howell just giggled. "I'm going to go check up on Phil."
"Dan, you can't." His mother said, stopping him from walking out the door. "It's bad luck to see the groom before the ceremony."
"I haven't seen Phil in three days mother and he has been across the hall." Dan whined. Because Phil's mom was superstitious and so was his about the wedding traditions, he had to be apart from his future husband for three days. He had called the traditions stupid and had not let go of Phil until he laughed and kissed him, promising Dan that they weren't going to die, they just would spend a few days apart and it wasn't a big deal. "I'm marrying him and I haven't heard from him in days."
The proposal had been emotional and Phil had beaten Dan at it since they had thought of proposing the same day. Phil had gotten on one knee, opened the box to reveal the most beautiful ring Dan had had the chance to see and gave an emotional speech about how glad he was to have Dan by his side, how Dan has saved him and how he had made his life one hundred times better and happier and how he would love to have the chance to make Dan feel the same. They both had cried and Dan had nodded instead of speaking because he was afraid he would burst into tears the second he would open his mouth.
Then came the process that involved hiding the engagement, which meant taking off the ring every time he went out, did a liveshow or filmed a video, the wedding organization which had been really stressful and tiring. They had chosen to have the wedding on the beach, inviting their friends and close family. And lastly staying up late a couple of nights to write the vows. Not that it was hard writing them, it was just challenging to include all those spent with each other in a couple of sentences. Dan could write ten books for all he knew but as their wedding planner had emphasized quite a few times, they must keep it short and simple.
"Just another hour Dan, be patient." She said, kissing the top of his head. Dan huffed, sitting on one of the chairs. And one hour passed surprisingly fast with his and Phil's parents running around taking care of the last details, his hair getting fixed and ruined about one hundred times, the annoying photo shoot he had to do by himself and had to look dramatic in. He just wanted to see Phil. He just wanted to get this wedding thing over and have his husband all to himself. He took his video camera out and pressed record. He had been recording other bits like him getting ready, the place that the wedding was going to take place in so he could include in the video. Phil had agreed on doing the same so it was going to be a long one.
"Hello internet." He did his signature two finger salute with that sly smirk plastered on his face. "So, this is not the usual background of my videos but unless you are blind or like don't know how to read for some reason, I'm getting ready to get married. I know, I know this was the last video you have expected me to upload or film but what can I say, I'm full of surprises."
"How many of you should have guessed, it's not J-Law or Evan despite my constant praying." He said sarcastically. "I'm just about to get married to the dorkiest, most adorable motherfucker alive, ironically of course. Shit, probably shouldn't have said that. There are children here."
"Speaking of them, here are the cutest flower girl and ring bearer you have seen." He zoomed up on Darcy and Alex, who waved frantically at the camera. "The groomsmen," He turned the camera at PJ and Chris who were talking quietly in the corner but smiled as soon as they saw Dan. "And our beautiful bridesmaids. If we can call them that. 'Cuz you know, we don't even have a bride." Then pointed the camera at Bryony, Louise, Zoe and Cornelia dressed in their matching pastel purple dresses (to match Dan's wedding aesthetics). "Very wedding, much marriage, I know but it's going to be a really nice one. Phil and I planned everything to the last detail." He had to turn off the camera when Megan ran into the room. He was thankful there were cameramen and Youtubers everywhere to record the rest of it since Dan was too busy, well getting married. Megan was speaking on the phone and shouting for everybody to take their positions at the same time. Which meant that it was finally happening.
And then the moment came. Firstly Darcy and Alex walked out, holding hands. Everyone awed loudly while they were walked down the aisle, confused as ever about what the hell they were doing. Then the groomsmen and bridesmaids came after them. Martyn, PJ, Chris and Adrian accompanied by Cornelia, Louise, Zoe, and Bryony walked after Darcy and Alex with toothy grins and their arms linked. Lastly, Mr. and Mrs. Howell came into the room Dan was in, hugging him like it was the last time they saw him and linked their arms with their son's, walking out. He looked as handsome as ever with the suit hugging his body perfectly, his hair pushed back and the brown eyes that were sparkling with happiness. Everybody seemed to notice that as they turned at him with sweet smiles. But Dan didn't care about them, not when Phil was standing there watching him teary eyed and staring at him like he was the most beautiful walking man on earth.
"We love you." His parents' voices brought him back to real world and he realized he was now right in front of Phil. His dad hugged him tightly, not bothering to hide the tears forming on his eyes. His mother kissed his cheek and hugged him before walking back to their seats. He smiled weakly at them, ignoring the shaking knees and turned at Phil. He looked so damn good in that dark grey suit that made his eyes pop out so nicely, and his damn pretty hair and that smile so wide, Dan started to wonder if his cheeks were hurting. Phil grabbed his hands and winked at him, with his eyes still filled with tears. This was actually happening.
"Today, there will not be any dearly beloved, no betrothed and no ancient rhyme of the married." The officiant started, smiling warmly at the men who were looking at each other like there was nobody else in the room and he strongly suspected that they weren't even listening to him. "Today there are no dead languages to solemnize vows that are very much alive and will remain so for a lifetime. Today promises become permanent and friends become family."
"However, this day is not about the words spoken or the rings exchanged, nor is it about grand pronouncements and recessional marches. This day - the day of Dan and Phil's wedding - is about love. One of my favorite authors once wrote, "If love is not all, then it is nothing: this principle, and its opposite, collide down all the years of my breathless tale. Dan and Phil, your breathless tale is about to begin. Now we shall proceed to the vows. Phil?"
Phil cleared his throat as he stared into Dan's eyes, who smiled at him and gave his hand a light, supporting squeeze.
"Ever since I was young, I never really understood anything about the world, and I never understood anything that happened in my life. The only thing that ever made sense to me was you, and how I felt about you. That's all I've ever known. And that's enough! That's enough for me for the rest of my life." Phil chuckled. "I wasn't sure this day would ever come. But you were. I wasn't sure that love could survive everything we put it through. But you were. You were always strong and always sure. And now I know that I want you to stand beside me for the rest of my life. That's what I'm sure of. So today, I, Philip Michael Lester, take you baby-faced one to be my husband, my friend, my lover, my tormentor, my companion in life and my instigator in trouble. I will love you unconditionally, support you in your goals, honor and respect you, without too much sass."
At this point they were both crying and laughing at the same time, and they could hear sobbing in the distance. Probably Mrs. Lester or Howell. Or Louise.
"Daniel?" The officiant spoke. Dan only smiled and took Phil's hand into his.
"When was it that we fell in love, when we were 21 or 18, maybe 10? I don't know 'cause the truth is I can't picture a time that I wasn't in love with you." He spoke, trying not to give away he was ready to burst into tears any second. "I always knew you were the one that could look into my eyes and see my soul. I don't question your commitment to us and I know there's nothing we can't work through. And I accept you as my partner and as my best friend above all others. It's a miracle to find the kind of peace and happiness that you've given me and in honor of that miracle, I, Daniel James Howell, take you Phil, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, for even poorer when I've been buying expensive outfits without telling you,in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part."
Now the bridesmaids were crying as well but Dan and Phil couldn't care less.
"This is an official thing Dan, you should keep that promise about the expensive clothes." Phil whispered at him quietly.
"Shut up." Dan whispered back, chuckling.
"Very well." The officiant said. "Do you Philip take this man Daniel to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and health, to love, honor and obey, in good times and woe, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself solely unto him for as long as you both shall live?
"I do." Phil said in the softest voice, not a trace of regret heard on his tone.
"And do you Daniel take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold in sickness and health, to love, honor and obey in the good times and woe, in for richer or poorer, keeping yourself solely unto him for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do."
The exchanging of the rings was now done, leaving Dan wondering how the hell did he put the ring on Phil's finger with such ease when his hands were shaking so much. But now it was done.
"Well there is nothing left to do pronounce you husband and husband. You may now kiss the groom."
And they kissed each other like that day they had met for the first times, the kiss speaking the unsaid words at the vows. Nobody could express the love they felt towards each other and they didn't want to. It was a private thing, something intimate between just the two of them. And nobody else mattered anymore.
-
"So we are officially married." Dan said to the camera, the second they stepped into the hotel room. Phil came by his side and waved. "As you can guess I'm stuck with this nerd for the rest of my life."
"I'm the one who is stuck with you." Phil replied, playfully hitting Dan in the shoulder.
"Really Mr. I-eat-my-best-friend's-cereal-all-the-time-and-leave-the-cupboards-open-all-the-time Lester." Dan said, trying to act annoyed at Phil.
"Well now it's Mr. I-eat-my-husband's-cereal-all-the-time-and-leave-the-cupboards-open-all-the-time Lester-Howell." Phil corrected him, giggling.
"Oh yeah." The biggest smile spread across his face. "I love you, you twit."
"I love you more." Phil replied pecking his cheek lightly and pulling away, his cheek slowly turning red.
"Isn't he so fucking adorable?" Dan chuckled. "Now before we turn into the cliche, sappy 'just married' couple I think we should end this."
"Yeah let's end this. We apologize for being so secretive all the time. We are really sorry." Phil said, not noticing Dan mouthing 'not really' beside him. "We will make a proper video explaining everything but now we should start packing."
"Japan doesn't wait." Dan said in a serious tone turning at Phil. "I can't believe you became one of those husbands that cried during the vows."
"Shut up, you were crying too." He said while Dan laughed hysterically.
"We are both sappy idiots, we can all agree on that." Dan said, smiling. "So yeah. Bye everyone."
They waved at the camera one more time before Dan turned it off and they laid in their bed, tired as hell but extremely happy.
"We are finally married." Phil said with the biggest grin on his face.
"Yeah." Dan agreed, kissing him. "That was definitely the most fun I've ever had."n
