"Where did you come from?"
"I can't tell you yet..."I said, my voice full of dread toward the unexpected question.
"Why not....! I want to know where my long lost sister is from!!!"
'I look toward my little brother "as his golden eyes stair back at me through long jet black hair with such interest it could be deadly and say " you'll figure it out soon enough, but you must stay quite, the guards are passing and we mustn't be seen or heard for this plan to work.".!.!
We sat in the trench for hours trying to reach our home just beyond the Fernden city wall. We had to venture in to the city to get herbs for our sickly aunt.
"Their gone, lets move now."
The only problem about trying to get through the city is well...... I'm not exactly welcome in the city.....well my kind anyway.
"Callie!!! Wait up. I can't run that fast!" He said with a breathy pause in between words.
" zed we have to move or we'll be caught and aunt Lina will die!" I screeched as I grabbed his arm and ran in and out of sketchy ally's and through tunnels to ensure the minimal probability of being caught.
We make it about 2/3rds the way to the wall when we have to find a new hiding spot. " zed hide somewhere, I don't care where just hide." He takes off strait into an empty crate and closes the lid while I stick to what I know. Shifting. I'm one of the last shifters in this city. My little brother has know idea who I really am but he'll find out soon.
I can shift into any living or non-living thing I've seen, so I could shift into a guard and walk zed to the wall then shift back but that would compromise everything.
I run into the nearest ally, away from all the poor people walking through the muddy streets. The sea of people parts easily allowing the guard patrol to move through the small grungy streets.
I slink further into the dark ally to try to conceal myself further but As I look at my surrounding I realize "Where the hell am I!!!"
In front of me I see a single tree standing in the middle of a meadow sprawling for miles in all directions. The tree alone was massive. It look as if it could eat the sky and the stars and cover the sky in thick branches full of plumage. The flowers look as though they weren't from earth. Blue and red spotted thorns shooting out from the middle and almost a neon yellow and black spotted petals with orange leaves and stems.
Walking close to the tree I can now finally see the trunk is intricately carved. Pictures of a battle fought between angels, shifters, and any other mythical creature know to mythologists.
The shifters took the battle at first by well shifting into the other creatures and killing all but one of each gender in each breed of creature. My parents were both hybrid shifters but they also had a son.....Zed.
"IS ANYBODY HERE!!!!" I scream trying to get anyone's attention.
"Welcome to venire meadow...."
"Who the hell are you and where am I"
"Your standing on the ground where black blood was shed for life to live on, on the other side of the human realm."
"The two people you think are your parents are not who you think they are."
"What do you mean....?" I ask the woman standing in front of me. She was very pretty with her butt length jet black hair and deep purple eyes that could see right through you if she wanted.
She spoke with such eloquence it was hard to concentrate on the carvings intricately etched into the trunk of the tree.
"You are not born of shifter."
"I'm not what?"
"You are part of all. You are the reincarnation of many ......."
"I'm so confused i'- wait where are you going, why am I the only thing moving?! What is happening!?"I scream as I'm pulled from the meadow like it was all just a dream and it was time to wake up.
"CALLIE!!!"
"Oh god....Zed!" I shoot up to to find myself in my bed at my aunts house and I'm covered in a black liquid.
"Aunt Lina, what happened to me? What is all this stuff? Where is Zed?"
All my aunt said after my little rant was "Your change has begun."
