She rubbed her eyes. The soft, filtered light of a fading sun streamed in through the hexagonal window. Looking up, she saw her small Redwing, Shadow Fire, flit above her head. Sitting up, she listened for any noise. None, not even Shadow Fire made a sound. Then it hit. The resonance of a sonic bomb. The wars had been going on as long as she could remember. Her mum was recovering from being hit, and her dad was off fighting. Lyra stood alone. Alone on the brink of chaos. Alone. Alone. Alone........
Will hid in the dark corner, hiding. He fingered the small blade in his injured hand, his left, and sighed. The stubs of cut off fingers wiggled and pain shot up like a lightning bolt, making him flinch. He whacked into an empty disposal unit, made by Levi-Corp of course. Levi-Corp, the source of his problem. The company that destroyed his life. What future will he have, now this has happened? Suddenly, the ground started shaking, and a small crack appeared. Will gasped and slowly edged away, till he could run, run as fast as he could.
The sinister grin slowly spread across his face, and onto hers. The pair stared out across the citadel, the Sky Citadel. It was theirs. All theirs. A soft laugh escaped her lips. The pair linked arms, having found each other as their soul mate. Two had become one. CassieandRichard. No longer were they Cassie and Richard. They were the joint rulers of the sky citadel. But, what had become of their souls, their essence? They were no longer human. They were no longer a part of the world they used to call home. As the sky citadel floated on the clouds, they linked arms.
The music blared. Loud drum beats throbbed in her ears. This is what her friends would call her dark mood. Hannah turned over on the bed. The room was dark. The blizzard raged outside. Too cold for anyone to venture out. Even the prisoners were allowed to stay inside. Her father, the overlord of the camp was in a meeting, and Mello was busy. She looked out, and saw the snow flare up in random spots. Sonic mines, more destructive then atom bombs, more devastating then a plague, more dastardly then a Justin Bieber song. She doubted anyone who knew who he is around here. Retro was her thing. As snow exploded around her, she wished she lived back then.
The flashing lights of Tokyo glistened more than the stars themselves. Misa stretched, and replaced her phone on the desk. Her old beanies looked up at her. Senior Frog, the 2050's movie star, Lil' Electro, and his sister, Lil' Electra, robotic pop stars from the year 2105. My MaShuShu. The chibi robot designed for children, to teach and play. She never played with them though. She was too old. She wished she could, but they would see. The cameras in every room too make sure no-one showed imagination above a certain age. Writing was forbidden, drawing was still life only and the fiction was banned.
Rubbing her small bruise, Tiegan looked longingly at the picture in the magazine. The cold winds of an ice storm whistled outside her igloo. Her dad was working on the arctic weapons system, and her mom, well, who knew? She didn’t live with them. A snowflake slowly drifted into the room, cold and wet, though as beautiful as a gentle butterfly. The stove, one of the last wood stoves in the world burned brightly. It only worked because of her trees. She grew them in a greenhouse. With the straight Earth, she had sunlight constantly. Her dad normally slept at the lab. She was drawn out of her thoughts by a picture. It was of her, before they moved here, back with her friends Sam, and Grace. How did they get it? The caption said “Three friends shopping in London.” Memories flooded Tiegan’s mind, and she moved to a happy place.
Her sleeves were rolled up. Her goggles covered her eyes. The chemicals surround her bubble and fizzed. She clutched the two nearest to her and raised them up to a beaker of water. If she got this right, she could provide drinking water for the whole of North Brazil. She would go down as the scientist who made water! Clean water! Nothing was safe to drink now-a-days. All you could drink was solid liquid from Levi-Corp. A server robot came over to tell her something. She looked away from what she was doing, and, BOOM! She added too much, and the sample was gone. Her eyes burned with half-formed tears. A small drop of salt water dripped off her cheek. She excused herself, went to her room, and burst into tears.
Bradley froze, and in a flash of colours, his world ended with a thud. His life was over, and the eternal darkness pulled him into a never-ending nothing, where he would never be hurt again.
It is the year 2200. The world is in a devastated state. You either live in extreme cold, or extreme heat. There are no free plants left, expect in rare cases. The oceans have expanded from melting ice-caps, and now most of Africa and Australia are under completely. Brazil has taken over America and Canada and they are now North Brazil. Britain also became ahead in the war department, and now officially controls the whole of Europe and the North African desert, which is the greatest holiday destination in the northern hemisphere, as it has glorious sandy beaches, with a clear blue sea. Then again, it won’t last long, as the oil spill started in 2010, caused by BP, now Levi-P, has grown so large that the whole of the Caribbean and its life, humans, animals and plants, are dead, and covered in oil. Britain, after realizing what would happen in the near future, invaded Russia, and now both countries are locked in a deadly sonic war, which, if continued, will spell the end of the world as they know it. A sonic bomb is a small capsule, with the energy to power a large city. When released, it will silently fall to the ground, and when it hits, it will release a large sonic wave, which will cause total destruction in a 10 meter range, and dangerous damage in the next 100 meters. Both sides of the war are using these. Because of this, the giant plates which make up the earth are being disrupted, and this cause tremendous earthquakes all over the world. One of the worst struck places is L.A, which was already on a major fault line. One of the people mentioned in the view points above (Will) lives in L.A, and just escapes an Earthquake. Many people believe that Levi-Corp, the robotics and engineering company are responsible for the world’s state. Levi-Corp, based in New Rio (previously New York) make the world’s food and water supplies, built the Sky Citadel, and make the robots which inhabit the Earth. Levi-Corp hire scientists from all over the world to work on various projects, such as making clean safe drinking water. There is a large rebellion group, called D.S, or Destruction Stoppers, (which Will is part of) who fight against Levi-Corp, by destroying robots, or stopping experiments. They believe that Levi-Corp is poisoning the center of the Earth, by releasing chemicals and pollution by producing robots. The group is based in Asia, which is blocked off from the world by a dome of smog and pollution, and is cold and dark, the only light being artificial. In the smog, imagination is discouraged beyond the age of 7, and fiction is banned. In Tokyo and Beijing, many celebrities live in large houses, while the poorer populace lives in small flats. Misa is one of these. In a short summary, the world is dying, and the way it is going, everyone will be dead in 15 years.
Character List Lyra - English - Her parents are struggling to cope with the cost of the war, so she lives in a small room with her pet bird, and is used to the war.
Will - American - He is part of the resistance group (D.S) and is working in L.A. He holds a strong grudge against Levi-Corp.
Cassie - British (origin of birth uncertain) - Part of the ruling power of the Sky Citadel, where the richest and most important people in the world reside.
Richard - American - Second half of the ruling power of the Sky Citadel. He is madly in love with Cassie, and is an acclaimed genius.
Hannah - Russian - Her dad owns a Russian Prison Camp, and she lives there. She is very moody, in to retro and spends her time with a mysterious character called Mello
Mello - Russian - The mysterious figure that Hannah spends her time with. Not much is known about him, except that he has a predominant scar on his left eye.
Misa - Japanese - A poor girl who lives in the slums of Tokyo. She obviously hates the fact that fiction is banned, and wished she was a little girl again.
Misa’s toys - Japanese - Misa’s 4 toys that she reminisces about. They are Senior Frog, a movie character, Lil’ Electro and Lil’ Electra, pop stars and MaShuShu, a toy to help children learn.
Tiegan - Arctic (of English origins) - She lives with her scientist father in the North Pole and has a talent for growing plant in her greenhouse. She misses London, her previous home.
Sam - English - One of Tiegan’s friends before she moved. Not much is known about him.
Grace - English - Tiegan’s friend before the move. Not much is known about her.
Scientist - American - a main character, though not much is known about her. She seems to have her goal in sight, but is having trouble reaching it.
Bradley - Brazilian- He is only mentioned briefly, and we see him right before he dies. From sources I have located, he was a soldier and died when he was on call in Britain. A sonic bomb hit him directly, and he died quickly. His body has not been recovered.
