4 Lucy's green eyes fluttered opened, and were greeted by a dark room. There was a dimly lit lamp on a table next to the best she occupied. Lucy realized that she was in the infirmary in the Big House. Lucy's eyes adjusted to the darkness and she sat up slowly. She looked around and spotted a figure slumped against the wall. The persons head was hanging low and their arms were crossed. They looked as if they were asleep, or that they having a to-the-death staring contest with the floor. Lucy figured that the second option wasn't very likely. Lucy gently pulled the blankets off of herself, and swung her feet over the edge of the cot. Lucy felt as if she had all of her strength, so she stood up swiftly and tried to walk towards the figure. After a few seconds, Lucy realized her mistake and crashed to the cold wooden floor. A tiny yelp escaped from Lucy's lips as she hit the ground. The figures body jolted awake and regained his bearings. The figures eyes glowed a bright golden color before fading away to black, due to the shadows in the room. He looked from the bed, then down at Lucy, who was still on the floor.
"Lucy!"exclaimed Luke.
So it was Luke who was taking watch over me. Lucy thought.
"Oh my gods are you ok?" he asked while leaned down and checking to see if she was hurt or not.
"No, I'm good. What happened? Why am I in the Big House?" Lucy asked as Luke scooped her up and placed her in the cot again.
"What do you remember?" Luke asked as he stepped back. Luke dragged a chair that was close by next to the bed and sat on the edge of the seat.
"We were fighting for fun, and we got to the water, then , I don't remember." Lucy lied. Lucy remembered everything that had happened. Apollo had asked to keep their meeting a secret, so she did.
"You fell in the water, after using the safe word. Gods I was so scared. Don't ever do that again Lucy." Luke scolded as he got up and hugged her.
"Yes Dad." Lucy sassed.
Luke pulled away and smiled down at her. He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, then sat down on the chair. As Luke sat down, he noticed the blush that had spread across Lucy's pale complexion. Luke leaned over and picked up a glass of a glowing water from the table next to the cot.
"Nectar?" Lucy asked in surprise. Luke looked at her as he held the cup out for her.
" Did you hurt me that badly?" Lucy asked as she glanced at the bandage around her stomach. Pain, regret and sorrow flashed by Lukes eyes.
"Lucy, I'm so terribly sorry. I tried to stop the swing, but..."
Lucy could tell that Luke was holding back some piece of information, but wasn't willing to share.
"I tried Lucy, I- I'm so sorry." Luke's voice began to brake and his eyes misted over with tears.
Lucy's heart throbbed with sympathy. She could tell how badly Luke felt over this. The suspicion of Luke's crush on her was beginning to grow bigger. Lucy gently took the cup from Luke's shaking grasp, and put it on the table; where it had previously been.
Lucy got closer to Luke and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"Luke, there wasn't anything you could do. You were in mid-swing, you can't stop a mid-swing. Although I do thank you for trying." Lucy said as she smiled at Luke.
" I should have tried harder. I mean, you shouldn't have to be in here. I hurt you Lucy. I hurt you." Luke's sentence faded as he spoke. Luke drew in a breath of fresh air, and calmed himself down. He gently grabbed Lucy's hand and gave it a heart felt squeeze. Lucy sat back and grabbed the cup of nectar. She slowly placed the cup to her lips and began to drink. Lucy expected to taste her fathers homemade chicken soup. She was surprised that she tasted something different. Every single time she'd been given nectar she tasted the chicken soup her dad made for her every time she got sick. But now, she tasted sweet sugary vanilla frosting. Lucy was repulsed, she wasn't used to the change. She was expecting chicken soup, not vanilla frosting. She pulled the cup away and stared at it, as if it might come alive.
"Lucy?" asked Luke.
"It's different. It tastes different. Not like my dads chicken soup, it tastes like...frosting." Lucy said with a disgusted face. Luke studied Lucy with a expressionless face.
"Vanilla or chocolate?" Luke asked trying to lighten the mood. Lucy smiled a bit.
"Vanilla." She said as she licked her lips.
"Mmmm..." Luke trailed as he licked his lips. As if imagining tasting the frosting.
A long time passes before either of them spoke again.
"You'll have to talk with Chiron and Mr. D tomorrow." Luke explained. Lucy nodded and looked at the clock on the wall. It was two in the morning. Lucy scoot to one side of the bed and patted the empty side.
"Get in." Lucy said. Luke gave Lucy a puzzled look. He didn't know what she was asking.
"It's 2 am. We both need sleep and that metal chair isn't gonna feel very nice." Lucy explained and she patted the bed again.
Luke sighed and climbed in bed with her, after taking off his shoes. Luke and Lucy spooned, Luke draped an arm across her midsection, careful of her injuries. Although she had taken some nectar, Lucy liked to heal like a regular mortal. She figured that other campers would need the nectar more than her. That was one thing Luke loved about Lucy. She would always put others before herself. She was selfless and caring. Luke could never admit it out loud, but he was one hundred percent sure Lucy and him were destined to be together. Luke and Lucy drifted to sleep a few minutes after climbing in bed.
