Yesterday, my friend said her brother died
The day before, she saw the cancer in her mothers eyes
A month ago, she lost custody for her daughter
Just another child with no mother or father.
Today I laid in bed staring at the ceiling
Took a moment to ask myself how I was feeling
Took a moment to analyze all that I was seeing
Was this really the life I was living?
Jumped up when I heard the tires
Racing off into the distance was a Pathfinder
On the pavement was my one and only friend
Didn't have to look twice to know that he was dead.
Yesterday, I picked up and joined a war
My father walked out the day before
A month ago, I debated where my loyalties lie
Lately I've cause tears from my mother's eyes.
Soon no one could be trusted for certain
Cause characters changed up real quick behind closed curtains
An eye for an eye goes the saying
Frustration and anger that could not be contained.
Went for a walk the other day
When suddenly from a car hollow tips
were sprayed.
I took to the floor instantly
Thinking the grim reaper had come for me.
Sadly that was not the faith of the little boy
Standing next to me, headed towards the store
Stained shirt and a hollow cry
Held him close as his lips formed "Why?"
My innocence was stolen very young
That's why to these deeds I easily succumb
Temptations linger and trust is unseen
My heart has grown cold, am I a human being?
I worry sometimes, but no one knows
Guess I'm just scared of what my future holds.
