A Change In Plans

Morning came and I awoke to the muffled sounds of talking. I rubbed my eyes wearily, having spent a restless night tossing and turning, and sat up. Sora and Chance paused as I joined them and poured myself a cup of coffee, but then they quickly continued. I take a sip of the hot drink and sigh contentedly, then focused on the discussion.

“You’re leaving than?” Sora was asking Chance.

“Yes. I have already been gone longer than needed. I still have many things to do and I don’t want them to get out of hand. We didn’t get to talk about Reucan; that’s why you originally wished to talk to me, right?”

“Ah, yes…” He sighed and rubbed the back of his head. “I need to find their hide out in order to bring Nakita to them.”

“Wait! What? Bring me where!?” I complain.

“I see. And you think I might know where they are?”

“Well… yes, that would be very helpful. The last time I was with them,” he looked up and seemed to do a mental calculation, “about twenty years ago, they were in Gellar. But, as you can see I have no way of contacting them and no way to know for sure if they’ve moved spots to avoid Lorsan’s detection.”

“What! I thought you knew where we were going.” I say frantically.

A crooked smile slowly formed on his face, “I may have left some things out.”

“Who are they?”

I heard Chance chuckle, “Where do all these questions come from?” I glare at him, who was grinning at me. They both laughed and Chance clapped a hand on my shoulder, “Relax, I was only joking.”

“They are a group called Reucan created to try to destroy Lorsan and his pets. Erin is their leader. I am taking you there because it will be safer and you can learn more from them than me.”

“It’s hard to say exactly. From the last time I saw them, they were still in Gellar. However, they moved to a hidden canyon somewhere in Darkwood. It won’t be easy because it’s hidden by wards.”

“Wards?” I ask, confused.

Sora shook his head, “Never mind that for now. This is going to be very tricky.”

“Even if you do find it, you’ll be lucky if their even still there.”

“Leyden!”

“Hmm? Oh… yes, I suppose he could get you in. You have to get him out of Baylor Town though.”

“Baylor Town! How the devil did he get himself there?”

Chance chuckled softly, “You know him, always getting himself into trouble. Last I heard he settled himself down with a young lady.”

Sora bust out laughing, “That’s bound to end badly. What was he thinking?”

Chance raised an eyebrow at him, “Are we thinking about the same Leyden?”

“You’re right, he was probably drunk.”

“I think all those years in that prison has gotten to him.”

I shake my head, spinning from what had just been discussed. I didn’t understand much of it, but we decided we would find this Leyden character. Apparently, he was one of the few who could find Reucan and all we had to do was bust him out of Baylor Town. Sora told me he owed him a favor from way back when and he would do anything for him… except maybe stop drinking.

I was packing my things and Sora was fetching fresh water from a nearby stream when Chance pulled me to one side. “What is it?” I ask.”

“I know you’re confused right now. Sora probably isn’t helping much, but he has good intentions. He acts strange and probably seems like a jerk for not telling you the things you want, need, to know. But let me tell you this; you aren’t ready for the truth yet. You won’t believe it, won’t understand it, right now. It’d be best to wait; he’ll tell you when you’re ready.”
