sam's pov:

"noah randee." anastasia looked at me.

"he was my best friend." i held my breath, feeling my mouth open and my eyes widen. i wiped the corners of my mouth so it didn't seem weird with my mouth just open.

she threw her head into her hands and rubbed her forehead with her palms, "it wasn't normal. something always felt weird. he wouldn't let me go out with friends, even if they were girls, and he checked through my messages. i never had privacy."

i shook my head. then i remembered something, "wait. he always talked about this girl he loved - in the beginning of sophmore year. her name was," then realization hit me, "stas." i said slowly.

anastasia just nodded. i sighed, running my fingers through my hair.

"sorry. this is a lot for you to take in." she broke the silence.

i saw her playing with her fingers, so i grabbed them, and intertwined them with mine, "listen. you can come to me with anything. good or bad. we'll work through it, together."

i saw her smile while her cheeks turned red. she looked in my eyes, which is when her smile turned to a straight line, "i need to tell you something else. he texts me, which is why i brought it up. i can't tell anyone in my family, so i thought i'd tell you."

"and what do his texts say?" i asked.

she gave me her phone, unlocked, and i went to her messages. i saw the name "Noah" and clicked on it. There had to be at least ten.

"hey baby."

"i miss you and the sweet taste of your lips."

"the way you'd dance in those tight clothes at parties made me love you even more."

"can we meet up? or should i just come over?"

i scrolled down and saw more. i read two more.

"i'm coming over, but only if you want."

i saw she responded. it said 'no', and that was it.

"stas, be careful. don't answer. you need to change your number." i slowly gave anastasia her phone back, and she locked it.

"i can't. they'll ask why and i don't want to deal with this. it's too much." she shook her head and her eyes had tears in them.

she stood up and wiped her eyes, looking the other way.

"hey. hey. hey," i whispered, grabbing her arms and facing her towards me. her eyes were already red and puffy, causing my heart to shatter, "no crying. not for him, anyways. he's a dick. i'm the only one who kiss you and make you feel special." i smirked. stas let out a soft laugh. i loved seeing her smile. it was like waking up and smelling bacon cooking and the sun is shining, lighting up your whole room. or the feeling of a bed when you haven't slept and you can finally rest.

"we need to get out of here." stas sighed.

"what do you mean? i can take you to the coffee shop or-"

"no, no. like away. out of this state, or country even. i want to get away." she grabbed my hand, hope in her eyes.

"we need to finish high school, stas. finals are in two weeks, then we graduate. you can do it. i'll help you along those two weeks. the day we graduate, we're leaving. i'll see where we can go." i encouraged. i felt bad that she had to deal with noah for so long, two years.

her eyes traveled to the floor, and she just nodded. i looked around, before i felt her lips close to my face.

"i love you, babe." she whispered, her hot breath touching my neck.

"and i love you." i kissed her lips and squeezed her hands.  until i heard a knock on the door.
