Expelled and needing to transfer for his final year, Liam had known immediately where to go. It was the place that'd taken everything from him; that'd ruined him so absolutely it'd twisted his personality beyond recognition.
The place where he'd met...

Charlie was hovering by Liam's side as Millers pressed a small microphone onto his bare chest, carefully taping it in place.
ㅤ"This will let me hear what's going on, but I won't be recording, alright?"
ㅤLiam nodded, buzzing under his skin. His mouth was cotton.
ㅤ"You'll have to be careful not to look down or fiddle with it," Millers continued. "If Woods notices you're bugged, there will be trouble."
ㅤ"Okay," Liam croaked.
ㅤIncredibly, he was starting to appreciate Millers' sharp apathy. If Liam had been treated any gentler, he would've been begging for this insanity to be called off on his knees.
ㅤWith Charlie by his side, his legs were that bit more stable, but he'd soon have to venture out on his own. He was terrified.
ㅤIt wasn't like before, where life or death were equally benign consequences. Now, he had everything to lose. And, knowing his rocky relationship with luck, it would be horrifically ironic if he finally died the moment he no longer wanted to.
ㅤ"You won't have to interact with him for very long. Once I've confirmed he's there and when it's feasible for me to do so, I will step in."
ㅤLiam tightly fisted his shirt once Millers had dropped it back into his hands. It was okay. He would be there for a few minutes, and nothing more. Then, all of this would be finished.
ㅤ"And what happens if it's not 'feasible'?" Charlie asked, still his stony self.
ㅤLiam considered that. What if Woods brought his arsehole guard dogs with him and they had guns? Millers would surely hold back. Liam's heart pounded quicker.
ㅤHowever, Millers didn't seem too concerned. "It's unlikely they'll be armed over some kid, but I do have a plan if that does occur, rest assured."
ㅤLiam glared down at his shirt, clenched fingers aching. He yanked it over his head. He sensed, rather than saw, Charlie leaving his side, finding Charlie crowding Millers once he got his head through.
ㅤ"Why should we trust you? Especially when you don't tell us shit."
ㅤMillers looked unaffected as usual. "You saw my badge. You can take another gander if you want."
ㅤ"You know full well that means nothing."
ㅤLiam was inclined to agree. There was one significant reason organised crime on this level could fester for so long.
ㅤCorruption.
ㅤMillers grinned. "You don't have internet, do you?"
ㅤCharlie stared.
ㅤ"You should look me up sometime," Millers said. "I'm very impressive."
