I woke up, shuddering and coughing, last night's dream still haunting me. I will never be capable of forgetting my wife, Helen's, gruesome death. It was the Red Death that killed her, that cursed disease.
After clearing my throughly, I got up and began the day's experiments. I can't let myself get distracted, I had to find a cure, I just had to. For Helen. Everything for Helen.
Hmm, I thought, what other combinations have I not tried? Flustered, and not moving forward on my work, I decided to take a walk around the pathetic "village." Ever since that war, nothing has been the same. Bombs and other weapons destroyed most of the Earth's wildlife and resources, leaving everything that remained up for grabs. When people first realized the war had ended, it was havoc. People foolishly used up gasoline and everything we had left to suit their own needs. Stupid, greedy, shallow minded bastar--my thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
"Door's open, what do you want?" I asked loudly, only now realizing how coarse and rough my voice had become. The door swung open, revealing a young woman in maybe her late twenties.
"Umm, sir, um well I just wanted to um tell you that um, well-"
"Spit it out, woman!" I commanded this. I simply cannot stand stammering. The woman stood up a little straighter at this, and quickly responded,
"President Terry of the Scavenging Coalition is requesting an audience with the board. The whole board, that includes you, Mr. Jenson.
