Have you ever looked up to realize you've made a huge, awful, terrible mistake. I know that feeling all to well. There was this one when I got into a huge fight with Amber which made me run off into the woods and then...well, I might as well you the whole story.
*****
It all started one day a few weeks after Amber and I started teaching each other. I was eating breakfast with my mom and fidgeting all over. My mother chuckled, "Do you have a date or something?" She asked.
I nodded, not getting the joke, "Amber and I are suppose to meet at the meadow for a lesson."
My mother sighed, "You've been spending a lot of time with Amber recently. Have you guys made up from before?"
I rolled my eyes, "Yes, but Amber and I are not friends." I insisted.
My mother just shook her head in that motherly way, "Alright let's go. You don't want to be late."
I jumped to my hooves and raced into the woods before I skidded to a halt. "Slow down dear!" My mother called, "I'm not as young as you are you know." She joked.
We walked together through the forest to the meadow where I saw Amber over by the stream, "Amber!" I called happily.
The beautiful fawn glanced up and smiled at me, "Luna!" She replied.
We ran to each other and gave the other a quick hug before walking off to start our lessons. It was around midday when the fighting started. "Ugh! No! You're doing it all wrong!" Amber groaned.
I grimaced, "I'm only doing what you told me!"
Amber growled at me, "I told you to sing! Not screech!"
My blood boiled, "Hey! My singing is not that bad!"
"Sure. Maybe you're just deaf, but I'm not!" Amber cried angrily.
I felt like I was about to explode, "I HATE YOU!" I screamed and in the moment I ran. To where? I didn't know, but I ran. I could hear my mother's cry, but it was too late, I went tumbling down, off a cliff, and into a raging river. The water clung to my fur and the current dragged me down stream. When I tried to scream I just got a mouthful of water. It took all my strength just to stay above the water, and even then there would be times where the current pulled me under. Fear coursed through my veins and as I look back that day now it was probably my fear that kept me alive.
Eventually, I was washed ashore. I didn't know where I was or how far I was from the meadow. "MOM!" I shouted, but the only answer I received was the silent forest. Never in my life had the towering trees of my home seemed so foreboding and so terrifying. I knew that I couldn't stay in one place, and I also knew that if I followed the river I should find my way home.
So, off I went. There were a few times where I had to leave the river's coast, but I always stayed close enough so that I could hear the roaring tides. One of these times I was walking through the forest when I heard a roar, and it wasn't from the river. I turned around very slowly with eyes wide and fearful. Behind me, towering over me was a giant, 7-foot tall brown bear. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" I screamed. The bear let out a thunderous roar and slammed his two front paws onto the ground making the world shake.
I shot off into the forest trying to find the hardest path for the bear to follow. The bear chased me on into the night and when he finally quit the chase I was at least a couple miles away from the river. I couldn't hear anything, only the soft breeze that rustled through the tree tops. I stood there taking in the serenity, trying to find a positive when a thunder boom shattered the stillness. It wasn't long before the rain and lighting followed.
