Ava's POV
He bent down to pick up his shoes and socks, I watched him closely as balanced himself well standing on one foot, trying to get his other foot in the shoe. Through the lose t-shirt I could just barley make out the muscle definition on his broad back.
"Stop staring at me." He said, then looked at me with a small smirk. I was at a loss for words, before he had been so emotional and now he was being playful? My checks flushed as I began to think about him shirtless, but I quickly shook the though out of my head. Not five minuets ago this boy was ready to jump. Not five minuets ago, I was ready to jump. I felt my heart drop at the thought. I knew what I had to do it, I just needed some time. I wanted to be alone, so I figured I'd eventually drive him away.
"So," he said once he had his shoes on, "what brought you here?" He looks at me with curious eyes and then back down to the rock. I thought for a second, what should I say? I couldn't tell him the truth even though it was pretty clear that we where on the same page.
"I was just bored I guess," I said with a shrug. "I mean my parents have been gone for 5 days now and most of my friends are in cape cod so I kinda just wanted to get away," he looked at me and nodded his head. "Plus I love the water." I finished with.
"Yea, me too." He said and stared over the horizon. It was silent for about a minuet, not the comforting type of silence, more like the type where all you want to do is get up and leave. The type where you can only wonder what the other person is thinking, if they find it as awkward as you do. I started giggling a little under my breath, he looked at me and raided his eyebrows in confusion. I let out a silent laugh and said
"I have a tendency to laugh in kinda... awkward situations." I laughed again.
"Oh." Is all he said with a blank expression and looked back out at the view. I slowly nodded my head awkwardly muttering "yupp" just under my breath. I looked over at him again, his defined jaw stood out prominently as he tilted his chin up and let the sun shine down on his face. His soft, slightly tanned skin seemed to absorb the light making him look even tanner. I look down at the rock we where sitting on the started to smile again. Don't laugh I thought to myself, don't laugh I thought again. Despite my effort I still let out a small giggle which caused me to think back to the time my friend tripped over a hammock, which caused me to laugh even more. Liam looked over at me and started to laugh too. I slowly looked up at him and smiled.
"Why are you laughing this time?" He said with a small smile. I debated with myself on whether or not I should tell him the story, I mean I guess no harm would come? Why not.
"I was actually just thinking about this one time, I was at the beach with my friend and well, she's kinda clumsy. But anyway she through something at me and so I picked something up to throw at her but before I could throw it she ran. And, oh wait! I forgot to mention that this was a beach that like you could drive cars onto, and away, there where two cars parked next to each other and-" I started laughing a little but mustered up the ability to stop and continued "and well, there was a hammock hanging in between two cars so when she ran in between the cars she tried to jump the hammock but her foot got caught on the ground and she fell straight on the ground." I finished with a big smile and he looked at me with amazement.
"You are a terrible person." He said, I could tell if he was being sarcastic or serious. Finally after about 20 seconds of silence he looked over at me with a smile
"Just kidding" he sorta whispered. I laughed out of relief, "but you can talk fast." My cheeks flushed light pink and I looked at the ground. A few more minuets passed by and no words where said. I restrained from laughing only because this time I felt almost more comfortable. I don't know why.
"So what school do you go to?" He asked out of no where. I picked my head up quickly and looked at him, he was playing with a pebble he probably found on the ground.
"Portland high school," I replied. "What about you?"
"Portland boys school," he said. "It's a private school for only boys."
"Oh, that must suck." He looked at me and laughed a little.
"Yea I guess" he said "but it's not that bad, it's kinda small"
"That's cool," I said "my schools huge, I wish it was a little smaller but it's ok."
"Cool," he said and rubbed the pebble in between his fingers. "What grade are you in?"
"10th" I said, "but only for another week for me."
"Oh really, my school already got out about a week ago."
"What!" I said, probably to enthusiastically.
"It's true" he said well laughing, probably at me. I smiled and look over at him. He slowly turned his head around and his eyes met mine. His where a light shade of brown, almost matching his hair. I noticed his shirt had a football on it as well as his high schools name.
"Do you play foot ball?" I asked.
"I did my freshman year," he replied "but I'm mostly into soccer and basketball. What about you?"
"I run track but I used to play soccer," I said "but I also really love surfing."
"Oh that's cool" he said, "are you actually good?" I laughed a little and looked away.
"I mean... I don't know." I said shyly.
"How can u not know!?" He said playfully.
"It's an awkward question!"
"How so?"
"I don't know..." I said slyly again. "I guess I'm decent"
"Ok fine." He said well laughing.
