March air brushed in gentle patches over the legs of Kennedy as she locked up her family's coffee house.

The brunette slid the key out of the tumbler, putting the loud ring of them into her shoulder bag. She fared well in the near spring of California, the late night not bothering her.

She checked her phone as she headed towards her car, another set of keys in hand as she approached the Jeep Cherokee Sport. At midnight, she climbed into her car and brought the engine to life. She pulled on the lever for her headlights, a scream emitting as she dropped her android into her lap.

Laughing, a tall figure came from the  front of the Jeep to the driver's window. "You're so easy to scare, Ken."

"Brett, you're the worst!" Kennedy exclaimed as she rolled down the glass.

"So I've been told," the boy replied with a grin as he leaned in.

Kennedy pressed her lips to his, running a thumb along his cheek. She smiled as she pulled away, her green eyes on him. "You know I can't stay out. It's already late."

"I know," Brett said as he had his hands rested on the outside of the car so he could lean in. "I just wanted to see you since I couldn't yesterday."

"Or the day before that," Kennedy put in. "Going to different schools doesn't really help."

"We'll work through it, Ken," Brett assured.

Kennedy smiled, "I know we will. It's probably nice for you to say you're dating a junior, though."

Brett lightly laughed, "It is a pretty big deal for a sophomore to date a hot upperclassman. It's an even bigger deal to date a gorgeous, outstandingly smart junior such as yourself."

"Well now you're just trying too hard," Kennedy said with soft amusement before kissing him again.

"Well, who can blame me?" Brett asked cockily with a grin.

Kennedy smiled, lightly sighing. "Do you need a ride home?"

"I was just going to walk-"

"Babe, get in the car," she said.

Brett saluted mockingly, going back around the front of the car and climbing into the passenger's seat. As he buckled he started to play with the radio.

Kennedy backed out of her parking space, the only car left for miles around. "How's your sister?"

"She's good," replied Brett as he ran a hand through his curly hair. "She's back at college. She prefers California to Boston, so she enjoyed having her spring break here."

"But to be fair, Harvard is a big deal." Kennedy drove towards downtown, recalling the time she'd spent with Brett's sister.

"True," he agreed with a laugh. "Speaking of, have you thought about where you want to apply?"

"I've thought about it," Kennedy said as she turned to a residential street not too far from Devenford Prep.

Brett lifted an eyebrow, looking over to her. "And?"

"And..." Kennedy tucked a wave of hair behind her ear, "that's about it for the moment. I've looked, I've thought. I haven't decided yet." She pulled into the Talbot driveway behind his mother's car and parked.

Brett unbuckled but angled towards his girlfriend of three months. "Are you not telling me because you're worried what I'll think? Distance or something?"
