It was another day at Willow High. I wore a straight plain white shirt with a pair of dark jeans. My shoes were a set of black flats with no further accessories. My straight brown hair was tied up into a ponytail and my face was applied with a small amount of makeup. I was leaning my head against my left hand and tapping my pen rapidly against my science book. I was never a lover of chemical reactions or space.
It has never been interesting to me because I was a vampire after all and the only thing I was ever interested in was the taste of human blood. It was tempting to feed on the humans around me, but I knew I had to keep it confidential. If a human knew I existed then my whole race would be wiped. You see I'm the very last vampire left and it's up to me to bring back the vampire race.
My parents were killed when they had accidentally fed in public. It was all over the news. Not only did my parents die by a wooden stack, but they were also burnt to the ground. I gulped at the memory and shook my head. All humans believed the vampire race had been wiped after my parents 'funeral' so that's why I can't take any chances. I hated to imagine myself exactly where they were.
I was not giving up. Suddenly the bell rang, interrupting my deep thoughts. Lunch was my favourite time of the day because it was the time I went out to hunt. I had no friends because I didn't need them. I was fine by myself. "Hey Beatrix" Diana waved with a cheerful smile. Diana was in my previous maths class. We had only talked once because the rest of the time I had simply ignored her. "Where are you walking to Beatrix? Come join me for lunch?"
I hesitated and ran away. I whizzed through the back doors of the school and made a quick run for the nearby forest planted next to the school. It was a windy afternoon with little sun. The clouds looked like they were going to rain so I picked up my speed and attacked a small baby deer. I bit hard into its neck and snapped it with my hands.
The taste of blood made me greedy for more. Suddenly I heard a loud scream come from behind me. My face instantly shot back from my lunch and I halted with curiosity and shock. It was innocent Diana screaming in fear from the blood around my face. "What are you?" Diana stutters looking at me with uncertainty and fear. I nod slowly dropping my prey "Diana I need you to promise me to never tell-" I was instantly interrupted by the sound of moving footsteps. My heart started pumping out of my chest and without doubt I ran after her.
I caught her and held her in place by holding her head to the side. "Don't move or I'll snap your neck" I growl. I was scared! "Plea-a-se I'm sorry. Just don't kill m-" Diana pleaded with a menacing look. I panicked and snapped her neck because she knew too much. I dropped her now dead body and looked up at my school. At that exact moment I knew I had to move!
-- [ few hours later ]
The sunset was beautiful from the mountains. There was a clear view of the city with white golden flowers. My clothes were torn and my hair was knotted with sweat. There was no more Beatrix Miller, it was now Wren Emerson. Aged 16, born on the 13th of July with short red hair and green eyes -contacts. That was me. The new me! Once it hit dark I jogged into an abandoned farm house and set out a layer of hay and lay myself comfortably on top, staring into the glittering white stars until I fell into a never ending sleep wishing myself a better tomorrow.
-- [ next day ]
I got up early and began moving again. The sky was grey with a tint of blue. I expected to land back at the school. Why you ask? Simply because I needed my old identity crushed.
The file the school owned of me was a fake but it still contained my old identity and that's why it needed to be burned and gone from this earth and before I made my way to the school I hunted for breakfast. I fed on a small rabbit and quickly continued my journey.
Once I reached the school I was shocked by the bright yellow and black tape that was circled around the school and no student was in sight. Diana's body had obviously been found! Police cars were parked out the front and FBI members were now investigating the scene.
I gulped nervously and made an instant run for the closest window. With a forceful hit I managed to break it and slide myself in. That was the best thing about being a vampire. Life was too easy! If I had cut myself, then I would heal. If I was ever late, then I always had tomorrow because I lived forever. Life gave me short cuts.
I frantically went through the many files my principal owned and I managed to grab my old document. Footsteps crept through the halls and my hands begin to shake. While I was setting my information to flames I noticed something unusual. It was a red folder sitting peacefully on my principal's desk. I threw my file and grabbed it carelessly, folding the front open. I peeped through the hidden information secretly.
Dean Knight, age 17, born on the 29th of August, 1998.
The name hit me like a bullet. It was a flexible but mysterious name that I had heard of before. Dean Knight? I thought for a close second and stopped after I saw the desk on fire. My file had erupted the room in flames and I quickly jumped out the window and ran into the forest before I was caught. My large school was overflowing with the scent of smoke. Police screamed for evacuation and the sounds of sirens could be heard from afar. My eyes expanded with fear. They knew I was alive. Did this mean my future was going to end up like my parents?! I had to run.
Hope had not been lost... yet.
