My heart beat quickened and my breathing became rugged. “hum.” I pretended to have to guess. “Is it…Jesus?

He chuckled lightly, “Nope, last guess.”

“Wait… Batman is that you?” I joked

He burst out laughing and removed his hand, his green eyes connected with mine and I felt a tingle in my stomach. I hadn’t realised we were standing so close, our bodies were almost touching. For a moment I was lost in the different shades of green in his eyes. Earth to Lotty?! You are staring! I managed to recover. I took a few steps back and put an exaggerated pout on my face.

“What’s wrong?” he asked playing along and pretending concern.

“Well it’s just that you’re not Batman.”

He raised an eyebrow. “How do you know?” he winked at me.

“Well you’re not… good looking enough.” I burst out laughing at my own joke until I seen Chris running at me. I tried to get away but he was too fast. He wrapped his arms around my legs and lifted me up, roughly throwing me over his shoulder. “Put me down!” I banged my fists on his back.

"Not until you say that I am sexy" he commanded. My mouth fell open in shock and I was glad he couldn’t see my face, I was probably blushing.

“Never!” I cried. He paused for a moment before sliding his hand up my leg and tickling my thigh. My body immediately started to spasm out of control. I probably would have kicked him in the stomach if his other arm wasn’t restricting my legs. I endured the torture for as long as I could -which really wasn’t that long- before I finally gave in. “Youaresexy” I blurted out in between bursts of laughter.

He stopped tickling me suddenly and walked slowly over to the tree. He bent over and scooped me into a bridal style carry before placing me down on the ground on my back. He lay down a few feet away from me. He shut his eyes brushing his blond hair out of his face with his hand and placing it behind his head as a pillow. I turned on my side and rested my head on my out stretched arm, facing him. I looked up at the old oak tree, when we were younger we would call it the ‘granny tree’ not sure why. I noticed the carving on the bark and let my mind wander back to the day we made it.

It was the last day of summer, the summer before we went to our separate secondary level schools. Chris was going to a boarding school for boys which meant we wouldn’t see each other during the week anymore.  We had vowed a few weeks before that we would meet at this tree every Friday when he got home. However we hadn’t seen each other for two weeks since we made the promise because we were both grounded. I guess we had that coming after…

     1.  Almost giving Chris’ summer tutor a heart attack.

    2.  Running off into the woods without telling anyone and

      3. Falling asleep in the woods and staying there until half twelve when we were finally found by Author.

This punishment left us with one day to see each other before he left. We came here. After the time spent apart, he took out a pen knife and etched our initials into bark as his own way of showing me that he was still intent on keeping the promise.

The carving looks something like this…
