I was talking with my best friend, Jake, distracting him so I could beat him at our zombie game. I was in the lead, and nearly beat his score when my mom called me down to leave. I flinched, took my eyes off the game for a second, and turned just in time to see my guy die.

"That was so not fair! I was distracted! I demand a rematch-," I had gotten out.

"Nathan! Let's go! We can't be late to the site!" My mom called. Jake smirked at me.

"-After I get back. I will win." I said seriously, looking into his eyes before we doubled over laughing.

"Alright. Go, go. Wouldn't want to face the wrath of a mad mom." I smiled and saluted before i ran out the door to my mom who was starting to walk up the steps.

She shook her head at me and gave me a nice long lecture on how I was supposed to come the first time I was called, not make her walk up the stairs to get me. I offered my most innocent smile at her and put all the blame on Jake. She sighed, trying to figure out how he would have been to blame before realizing that it was no use trying to understand my way of thinking.

"Get in the car, Mr. I-blame-my-friends." I tried to hide my laugh as I ran through her 'insult' again and again in my head.

"Is that the worst you have? Please, a tree could insult me better," I scoffed, As soon as I walked passed her, she hit me in the head, much to my dismay.

After a while of playful fighting, we finally made it to the car.

On our way to the nearest ATM, I saw a car behind us. I fought off any paranoia, thinking that I was starting to play too many video games, and then rid my head of that thought. Who ever heard of too many video games? I shook my head and rolled my eyes.

I watched as the car seemed to trail us, and when mom got out of the car, I walked up to the ATM with her, watching the car park a little way off, and snuck small glances towards them.

Ok, yeah, sure it was a small town, and this was the nearest ATM, but I couldn't shake off the sense of foreboding. Finally, I had a reason to worry, as I heard the faintest sound of clicking metal, and saw a small silver weapon in one of the men's hands.

Fortunately, they were taking their sweet time, so I inconspicuously leaned over to my mom and whispered, "Get down!" She looked like she thought I was half crazy, so I told her to get down, again.

Finally, I heard them load the gun, and I instantly covered her as she screamed slightly. I gritted my teeth as I felt the bullet hit my side.

"Get in the car!" I yelled as I couldn't help but notice them getting out of their car. She instantly got in the passenger side, and I climbed in the driver's seat. The only problem was...the car was going to be uncooperative, and it didn't want to start,
