I stood impatiently at the airport, I can’t wait to see my dad! I haven’t seen him in such a long time and I can’t bear to stay at the old house I use to stay in. My parents got divorced when I was young, we live in England but since the divorce, my dad moved to Canada. He would fly to England occasionally during Holidays but moments like those are very rare and I guess it only happened a couple of times. That house will never be my home. Even if I loved my mum dearly, I will never accept him. Who’s him you ask? Terence Williams, my step father. He’s a ‘millionaire’, oh wait scratch that, a grumpy, mean, snotty rich man who’s so full of himself. Sure, he acts so nice when my mum’s around but when she’s not there, his devil horns appear. I talked to my mum about moving with dad for a while. It took a lot of thinking and begging and even bribery just to get her to agree, well, Terence also convinced her that it would be a splendid idea so I could build a bond between me and my original father but I knew better, he just wanted to get rid of me. Wouldn’t be a problem though because I don’t want him around either.
So, here I am at the airport. “Sweetie? I’ve missed you!” I heard someone call. I turned to see my father, we’ve only seen each other a couple of times but I’d definitely never forget what he looked like. Terence will never replace that special place my father has in my heart. That sounded quite dramatic but it’s true. Terence doesn’t have a place in my life and he never will. I ran to his open arms and gave him a tight hug. “Dad, I’ve missed you too!” I said, of course, I’ve stayed in England all my life, I have an accent. Clearly, my dad doesn’t possess such anymore, which was kind of impossible, I mean, could you get rid of an accent that easily? I guess he was always around Canadians.
He lead me to his car, he insisted on carrying my luggage for me but I could do so myself. It was a long drive, although, Stratford didn’t look like much of a big place, it’s full of simple people with peaceful lives, I could live with that. It wasn’t really different from England, just that my friends and my favourite tea house are a world away. We parked at a wide drive way. The house was huge, well, it wasn’t too big but it’s definitely not small. We entered the house, it looked cosy unlike Terence’s that always had a butler in every room. It annoys me to have someone else in my personal space. “I had the best room in the house cleared out for you, sweetie, but if you don’t like it, we can re-design it for your taste.” He said leading me to a room down a well-lit hall. He opened the white wooden door, and my mouth hung open. “It’s perfect, dad.” I said. The walls were painted purple and the lights aligned at the ceiling gave it a perfect balance of colour. Terence made me sleep in a shoe cabinet, yes, I feel a lot like Harry Potter in there. My mum informed me that dad works as an interviewer/anchor at the local news channel here, so I guess his job pays of well. “Honey, I have to do an interview about the Bieber’s company in half an hour, feel free to do what you want. I’ll be back in a while. You can also walk around to get to familiarize yourself so you won’t get lost on the way to school tomorrow.” He said and chuckled at his last statement. Oh yeah, I have school.
Dad left the house and I left short after he was gone. I was craving for pizza and I challenged myself to find it without getting lost. I think I’m doing a terrific job at it, note the sarcasm on that. I finally found a pizzeria, I had a few bucks in my pocket that I found at the counter. Well, my dad wouldn’t mind. The aroma of delicious pizza filled my nose. I almost drooled at the scent. I made my way to the counter, “Good evening, ma’am, what’s your order?” She asked, a wide smile plastered on her face. Oh, wow, it’s evening. I have been walking for so long. “Hm, I fancy a ham and cheese pizza, take-out, please.” I said, she looked at me with a shocked look at first. “You must not be from around here, I guess.” She said. “Well, yes, I just moved in.” I replied. “I hope you have a great first day in Stratford then.” She smiled and handed me the pizza. “Thank you.” I replied and made my way out. Well that wasn’t…bad. The pizza box was almost empty until I reached the gates of my house, well, this is home because it’s with my dad but with Terence, it’s bloody hell.
I heard boisterous laughter from a short distance. I turned my gaze and saw three boys. I quickly looked away and just entered the humble perimeters of my new found home. I guess this neighbourhood wasn’t as peaceful as I thought it was.
