Chapter 1: Lost

“C’mon, just start already!” I shouted at my car along with my twin brother, Aaron. “Forget this Allie, I’m walking.” He said, obviously exasperated. Then he stepped out of the passengers’ side door. I couldn’t just leave, this car was my baby. I got it for my 16th birthday and so did Aaron. He got a black SUV and I got my white van. On his first drive, though, he crashed it into a tree. There was just too much damage and not enough money to fix it, so Aaron sold his car to a nearby garage.

I just couldn’t get my car to start no matter how hard I tried. I slammed my head on the dashboard, not thinking about the pain it would put me in. I moaned in pain when I heard the sound I had been waiting for. The soft hum of the engine as it roared to life. Oh shoot, I was already late for first period and I was pretty close to missing second, so I slammed on the gas pedal.

The hallways were empty, not a good sign, I thought to myself. It gave off an eerie feel. As if I was being watched by an evil monster lurking in the shadows. Watching. Waiting. For something, anything, that could quench his thirst for blood. That was why it was so empty and quiet. The others were already gone. If I made a wrong turn, I would come face-to-face with their cold, lifeless bodies. I would have absolutely no chance against whatever evil lies here. Maybe it was a colony of vampires… Wait, snap out of it Allie. “I watch way too much Twilight…” I mumbled to myself as I rushed to class.

“Don’t all girls? Personally I’m a huge fan.” said a voice from behind me. I slowly turned around to come face-to-face with every girls dream. With his straight, long, black hair that hung in his face, he looked about 6”2’. He had the most piercing green eyes. It looked as if he could see right through you. You could tell he had seen everything imaginable, but never really opened up to anyone. “I’m Cole, I guess you could say I’m new here.” He said, reaching his hand out to shake mine. Teenagers these days still shake hands? I thought to myself, I tried to introduce myself, but I couldn’t force it out of me, I was lost. Lost in his eyes. I couldn’t tear my gaze away from his. I again, tried again to say my name.

“A-A-Allie” I stuttered, still lost in his eyes. He let out a chuckle, but I didn’t notice much. As if robotically, I reached my hand towards his. As soon as our fingertips had just barely touched, I felt a warm feeling inside. No I wasn’t in love, I just felt warm. Soon enough, warm turned to hot, then I just wanted to tear my own skin off just to get away from the excruciating pain. It didn’t matter what it took just to escape all of the pain I was going through.

I started feeling dizzy, so I figured I was either going to die or black out. Hopefully once I did, I wouldn’t feel anything. I looked ahead of me, but I wasn’t in my school hallway anymore, instead, I was running down a different hallway. It seemed endless. There were open doors everywhere. Inside of one cheerless door, there were two demons, with dark red blood dripping from their jaws. It was bone-chilling just too slowly glimpse at it as I ran by, the demons were eating the flesh of a live human. He was screaming and when you slowly gazed down to his legs, you could see that the skin on his legs had been slowly torn off and eaten piece by piece.

The next door consisted of many coffins, all with a men in black suits guarding them. The people inside were trying to get out. They were pushing and shoving and throwing themselves against the sides. But the guards kept them in there. They were fighting though. Fighting for their lives.

Then there was blood. Lots of it. It covered everything. There wasn’t a spot in that whole room that wasn’t covered in blood. It dripped of the roof and crawled down the walls like the long, hairy legs of an oversized tarantula that slowly crept down the walls and cornered its prey before it attacked. I finally reached the end of the hallway. There was just one more doorway left. I bolted inside, not knowing what I was running from.

Inside of that door was the most horrible sight of them all. There was a little girl, no older than 5 or 6. She was the most adorable little girl in the world. She had blond hair, the exact same as mine. She had bright green eyes, full of terror. That was when I noticed two men pushing her towards two pieces of wood placed very close together with a hole in the middle. Hanging by a string was a skinny and very sharp piece of metal. It took me a couple of seconds to realize it was an executioner stand. They were going to execute her. I tried to run through the doorway. To save her and hold her in my arms to tell her everything would be alright. I felt strangely connected to her. As if I knew her. I watched them in horror as they shoved her small, fragile head into the deathly hole. I couldn’t watch, but I couldn’t seem to look away or close my eyes either. Before I could scream, a guard dressed in black pulled the rope and I watched as if in slow motion as the piece of metal slid towards the little girl, who was surprisingly calm, she just closed her eyes, and waited. Then, I blacked out, for real.
