"Amelia! Are you even paying attention to me?"
"Mhmm. Keep talking."
So much chatter up in this cafeteria. Why can't we all just shut up every once in a while? I'm sure this place could be so much more peaceful. And Stacy won't be quiet at all. Always running her mouth a mile a minute. I know we are kind of close, and are supposed to tell each other everything, but I really don't care.
"And then he was all like, 'Stacy I love you' and I was all like, 'Stop lying' and he was like-"
"Can you do me a favor Stace?"
"Um...yea. Anything."
"Can you like, shush."
She looked hurt. I saw her whole expression change, from happy pony to sad donkey.
"Yea. Sure. No problem."
I watch her look down at her food.
"Its just because I need time to think."
"You're in a cafeteria..."
"And you're in Wonderland. Your point being?"
"What is really wrong with you? Why are you acting like a total bi-"
"None of your business. Don't worry about it."
She stares at me. I swear that she is staring into my soul.
"Fine."
"Ok then."
She glares at me for a long time.
"Yes?"
"Nothing."
"Look Stace, I'm sorry to hurt your feelings, but I don't always feel like talking everyday. Ok?"
"Yea. I get it. I completely get it. You just don't like to talk to me. That's all."
"No Stace that's not-"
"Am I not _worthy_ of your time? Are we not best friends?"
She seemed to be waiting for an answer, so I gave her one.
"Im going to be real with you for a second. I don't consider you to be my best friend. We're just close. In the situation that I'm in right now, I can't trust anybody. If you don't like it than fine."
"You won't even tell me your situation! How do you expect me to understand?"
"I don't. I expect you to respect my privacy."
Her eyes get big in shock. I can tell she is getting annoyed with me.
"I've always respected you. You've just been difficult lately. What happen to 'I promise to tell you everything'? Huh? What happened to 'We are almost like sisters'? You've changed. And I don't know that its for the better."
I sit back in my chair and cross my arms. I stare at her.
"Leave."
"What?"
"If I've changed, then maybe I need to change the people I hang out with too."
"But-"
"If you won't leave, then I will."
Her eyes get glassy, and I can see tears in her eyes. She stands up and grabs all of her stuff. I watch her very closely, studying her every move. She then gives me one last glance, and starts to slowly walk away with her head down.
"Stacy wait!"
She looks back hopefully at me. I reach behind my neck and undo the chain to the necklace she gave me about a year ago. I take it off.
"Come here."
She walks back over. I tell her to hold out her hand and she does. I place the necklace in her hand, and close it around the necklace. One single tear runs down her face as she storms off, leaving me behind.
