Matt stands awkwardly by the door while Sasha sits on the edge off the bed and cries. Her shoulder shake as the tears roll down her face. Embarrassed, she tries to stop but they just kept coming, then she thinks, 'Why should I be embarrassed, they're the ones trying to keep me as some sort of hostage!' and she continues to cry. Matt walks behind her and sits down on the other side of the bed.
"It'll be okay." He says, putting a hand on her back.
"Will it?" Sasha asks angrily, "How do you know that? What if I never go home? What will happen if you never find who wants to kill me. What do we do then."
Matt gulped, his throat going dry, "I don't know. But I promise you will go home."
"How do I know you'll keep it?"
"I never break a promise, Sasha. Ever!" Sasha turns to look at him, her cheeks stained with tears. He takes his hand off her back and she looks down at her lap.
"I just want to go home, Matt." Sasha looks back up at him.
"I know... In the meantime, do you want anything?" Sasha's stomach grumbles and she realises how hungry she is.
"I'm really hungry." She tells Matt.
"Ok. I'll see what I can find." He gets up and walks to the door. "And Sasha..."
"Yeah?"
"Please, just stay here?!" She nods, and he turns and leaves. Sasha notices a book sitting on a table in the corner. Walking over to it, she sees 3 words written across the front cover. ' Come With Me. '
'Well that's ironic, isn't it!' She thinks, picking up the book and walking back to her bed.
She opens it and starts to read, her eyes flitting across the pages. Sasha has always been a fast reader, and could sit and read for hours if she has a good book. By the time Matt gets back, Sasha is halfway through the book. He brings in a tray with various plates and bowls. There's a plate with pieces of chicken, roast potatoes, carrots and gravy. Another is full of salad. A bowl of pasta sits in the corner, a bowl of tomato soup with bread on the side and a glass of orange juice. Sasha's mouth waters at the sight of it all.
"I didn't know how hungry you were." He says sheepishly.
"Thanks..." Sasha's mouth waters. Matt sets the tray down in front of her and she picks up a fork, diving into the roast.
"I see you're reading my book." He chuckles.
Sasha swallows down food, "What... Oh, oh yeah."
"It's my favourite. I like books that have a little...well... excitement."
"Yeah. Same." Sasha says, still not concentrating fully. She can feel the food making her stronger by the minute. The plate is now empty and Sasha eyes up the bowl of salad. Matt laughs and passes it to her. She half-smiles before eating the salad.
"Well, I leave you to read." Matt stands up and walks to the door, pausing before he leaves. "Um Sasha..."
She looks up, "Yeah?"
"Remember my promise, ok?" Sasha nods. Then the door closes behind Matt and she is left in silence.
